Colour of Codes – 1690 BDTF Aircraft?

Thanks Dave, I like the logic and will go with that if nothing more certain comes up. What’s interesting is that the Unit was apparently allocated the code ‘9M’, the Spitfire doesn’t carry it. Unfortunately, photos of this Unit are almost non-existent. Thanks again. Andrew

I’d guess Sky, certainly for the Hurricanes – they tended to have ‘fighter’ colours. e.g. the Spit illustrated here:
