Hey Guys,
What airline u think has the most attractive colour scheme? I think Royal Jordanian has a very attractive colour scheme. Emirates, new SAS scheme, KLM, Qantas, Aer Lingus, Air Canada and Royal Brunei.
The worst are Air France, Air India, Indian Airlines, Asiana, Korean Air, Aeroflot, BA, Swissair(looks like an airline of a hospital) and AA. What u all think?

RE: Colour schemes
I don’t really know. I would guess that paint technology has advanced immensely over the past few years so it could be something to do with that. For many years fibreglass gliders had to have a white gel coat in order to stop UV weakening the structure but modern gel coats can cope with the absorption by a colour, however the trend is firmly established that gliders are white.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-01-03 AT 05:46 PM (GMT)]To be honest i’m not sure if there was much truth behind it bar one exception, concorde.
It had to be white not the pearl grey like the rest of the BA fleet cos of this high speed producing heat effect

RE: Colour Schemes
Looking through the new issue of airlinerworld i saw a couple of colour schemes that are attractive-Vietnam airlines-swisswings(formally air engiandia)-ltu and libyan arab. There seems to be many airlines with good colour schemes and many with bad colours.

What about American? I cant decide if their livery looks spectacular or like its come out of the manufacturer’s two weeks early, missing the air brush artist!!!!

RE: Colour Schemes
My favourite Airline liveries are as follows-
British Airways – The pold aircraft were dull and boring, but the new ones with the new logo and varied tails are sooooooo cool, and different and unique, In don’t care what anyone says, I love BA’s livery.
Emirates – the old livery was good, but the new one is more modern and very dynamic.
Saudi Airlines – the old livery was nothing special, but the new one is beautiful
Cathay Pacific – the old was OK but the new is really nice
South African – same as the above two airlines.
Singapore- nice livery
Thai airways – nice livery
the worst colour scheme has got to be that oF USAirways… dull and black… it looks like a coffin

RE: Colour Schemes
I used to love the old ba colour scheme. With the royal crest.I used to be proud to travel with them. There colour scheme now is horrible!!!in my opinion it is extremely boring and i don’t think there is anything on the aircraft to show they are british(except the name of course)maybe i am wrong.I Sometimes see the old ba colours on the dash 8’s or atp’s which still look good.Having saying ba are a good airline.

RE: Colour Schemes
I think SABENA’s scheme – navy blue on the tail and engine pods – is very smart. I liked the old British Airways colours before all those horrid World Tails or whatever they were called. Also I quite like United, another smart scheme.

RE: Colour Schemes
I agree with you all but by far the airline that has the most appealing and tastefully designed colour is Air Jamaica. If you have seen an Air Jamaica before you would agree with me as the colours are well coordinated and the lovebird (Jamaican national bird) is very attractive. love that A340. With todays trend in the airline industry I think it is time for American,United and Lufthansa to decide on unveiling a new corporate image.

RE: Colour Schemes
South African Airways, no doubts. Their 747’s are very ôriginal painted. And yes Swissair does need some new colour schemes.
Have you seen the new Sabena colour shemes like used on the MD 11’s (not on the A340 – those are the old ones but they will be repainted if money is available). Virgin air also needs a fresh-up, because red is the colour of danger and that’s exactly what Virgin is. American Airlines also has nice colour shemes, the grey fuselage with blue-white-red is excellent.
Greetings

RE: Colour Schemes
My favourites are: Saudia, Virgin Sun, Air Jamaica, Uzbekistan, SAA, SAS and I love the new Icelandair Colours.
The worst, boring colours must include Monarch, AA and Britannia.
I ran a poll about this on my web site, BA’s new union flag colours were voted best, don’t agree myself but thsts the way people voted.

RE: Colour Schemes
Air Zimbabwe have a nice scheme I think. Great airline too. Others I like are: Cathay Pacific, Qantas (simple, but effective), The Singapore tropical megatop (sadly no longer with us), United, Crossair, Emirates, American and Gulf Air. The latter must be proud of their excellent Islamic art applied to some of their fleet too.
Carriers such as BA, Air France, Continental and Lufthansa all fall into the boring and average category.
JMC Airlines has to be one of the worst, along with Air 2000. Britannia could do with updating their livery too. Shame Air Europe is no longer with us, they had a great scheme.
Does anybody remember Court Line? Now that was a nightmare of a scheme!!

RE: Colour Schemes
Well I love….Royal Jordanian, Lan Chile, Iberia, BA ethnic colours, Gulf Air, Thai (the one with the big boat), Islandair,
Condor, Varig, Monarch, Gandalf, and all bright ones. I hate the dull and boring ones.

RE: Colour Schemes
I reckon the Nalangi Dreaming Qantas schemes are pretty darn cool. The Ndizani SAA scheme is great too, as is the standard SAA scheme. The new Delta scheme is the first US scheme I’ve liked in a while, they all seem to be too conventional.
The Air NZ scheme is great, the Thai Royal Barge scheme is fantastic, as is the current Air 2000 scheme. The Calder scheme on the Braniff DC-8 was great. Emirates is great, as is Saudi Arabian, and the new anniv Gulf Air shemes.
Frontier West’s schemes are very innovative.
But I’d have to say the IDEA behind the BA World schemes was the best.

RE: Colour Schemes
The most attractive colour schemes i think are,air jamacia, ata, cathy pacific, american west and transbrasil. They all seem to be very colourful and don’t stick to the boring colours other airlines have.
The worst colour schemes i think are on russian and eastern airlines. They all seem to have to much white and grey on them and don’t have interesting logo’s.Aeroflot only has a russian flag on it and a blue stripe and the rest is white.
