Drivers Jonas, the London-based commercial estate agents, have announced that Colt is for sale. The sale includes all technical and on-base domestic accommodation and the airfield, some 650 acres in all. The married quarters are excluded but presumably these are already owned by Annington.
It took the MOD more than 10 years to get West Raynham on the market – little more than 10 weeks for Colt. Anybody win the Euromillions lotto last Friday?

It’s West Raynham – some serious thread creep going on here!
Don’t knock the guy, I’m interested in both as I lived at both WR 85-89 (my first section is in the aerial photo) and lived at Coltishall from 2001 to 2004 and will be there in 6 hours

Don’t call Tom a thread creep, he’s not that bad…. even if he is fond off the odd Spitfire from time to time.

Regarding those airbourne pictures – the first one doesn’t look like Colt to me

WEST RAYNHAM CONCRETE CRUNCHING
I’m not sure that the title of this thread still reflects what we are talking about – still, here goes!
In the latest issue of Airfield Review, journal of the Airfield Research Group, it is reported that a statement in the Defence Contract Bulletin advises that Raynham’s technical and domestic sites have been sold to an organisation called Hodge Homes for around £9m. The airfield area itself has gone back to its previous owners under the Crichel Down rules.

I took this shot at the weekend, looks like the runways are being spared, for the moment, after looking at an overhead shot.
Still no news on a buyer for the non-agricultural land and buildings though.

Been ‘home’ this weekend and noticed that the runways have started to be broken up at Raynham 🙁 Tom
Blimey, you’re observant !
My wife & I drove past it only yesterday and we were gawking at the derelict housing (opposite a house we ALMOST bought before settling here), wondering what (if ever) anything will be used again – surely too far gone ?
Just round the corner from ‘that guy’ who sells all the crap Audi’s 😀
Miffed about West Raynham’s future  ????????….although I know it was sold through the same agents, ‘Jonas’.
So very sad about Coltishall – what a Major loss.

If anyone wants to have one last look at RAF Coltishall the gates will be open for the last time on 30th November 2006 at 09.30hrs.
Entrance will be through the Filby Road entrance instead of the main gate.
Only people with photographic identity of themselves will have entry to have one last look at the main areas of the base and watch ceremonies including the lowering of the Coltishall Ensign to the sound of the last post.
At 11.30hrs the last man to leave the base will be W/O Pat Chapman who will turn the key to lock the gates for good.
There will be a flypast by the Jaguars and a wartime Hurricane subject to weather. (no idea which one)
Brian.

Can’t see the airfield part of it being sold until the resolution of the legal claim by one of the original landowning families against the Defence Estates is resolved -probably be another W Raynham.

On this morning’s BBC Look East they advised that the GRP Bader replica Hurricane was being removed today.
Perhaps they are going to re-erect outside the ‘Storch’ Hotel.

It’s going to another RAF base, but I can’t remember which one. They did say on the Look East programme a couple of nights ago, but I’ve slept since then. 😮

Nothing on the Drivers Jonas website yet, or are they still writing the report up??
Who did actually buy West Raynham in the end?? I appear to have missed that one for numerous reasons..

I doubt it – you know as well as I do what the roads are like around there. Agriculture, hardcore from the runways / taxiways, light industrial use for the hangars I’d guess.
Bad infrastructure has never bothered housing developers in the past–but I’m sure you’re correct… 🙂
