Ok, it all comes down to how many sorties a squadron can dish out a day. Is it true what some of you said? That some (what we consider daily upkeep maintenance) on Russian aircraft is at a higher level? What does this do to the aircrafts next mission if lets say the INS won’t quite align or a weapons computer is not really acting right? These are certain things that on some of our aircraft if it is possible we just swap out an item. I can’t imagine that the Russians don’t just swap out (for example an avionics component, where possible) the item so the aircraft is mission ready. The faulty component being sent to a depot? I have a good feel how western ( for me how U.S.) aircraft are maintained having seen it first hand for years but have little clue to how a Mig21, Mig23 etc or the new generation Russian aircraft are maintained. I have heard bad things about the Mig21 but I can’t believe that they wouldn’t have their act together with a Mig29. Comments?
