The Comet was rolled out for the 70 year anniversary of the 1934 England to Australia.
The engines were run and she taxied on the airfield.

Ahh lovely… I’ve been patiently waiting for this beauty to come out of the hangar looking all Comet-shaped again. 🙂
Reckon the occassion calls for a couple of pictures of her from back in the eighties, last time I saw her fly. And sadly, a formation we’ll never see again…

Hmmm, seems like I overlooked the word “yesterday”. Well that was enough to completely alter the question. :p
Living in Naarden which boasts a very nice fortification seen from the air, the DC-2 regularly circles overhead my house.
Oops,

Thanks Cees,
Perhapos I should have been clearer! I was referring to the Aviodrome ‘Uiver’ recreation, which I’ve had a sit in the cockpit of, at Coventry and Leydstat (sp!)… – they flew it on Dec 17, 2003, for one commemoration – this would be even more appropriate. The original Uiver crashed soon after the race with the loss of 7 people 🙁

JDK,
The “Uiver” crashed shortly after the race in some desert during a mailflight.
But the DDA still have a DC-2 stored in the rafters (came from OZ during the eighties, no plans for restoration as far as I know) and then there is the airworthy DC2 active at Lelystad.
Wonder how Black Magic is coming along.
Cheers
Cees

Wonder what the Dutch did with their DC-2 yesterday?
Calling Holland, Calling Holland…
Nicer weather at Fleminton race course this year, but in 1934, that’s about the weather they got in Melbourne on arrival! 😀

Just another lovely day in Bedfordshire 😉
Great photos of the Comet, it’s nice to see her out in the sun. I’ve only ever seen her in the back of the hanger.
Hope the runway improvements are not being impaired by the weather.

2) when she last flew?
As far as I know, about 18 months ago, only for the gear to collapse on landing. I might (and probably am) be wrong.

Anyone know 1) when the 1980s restoration was finished and 2) when she last flew?
By: vicky ten - 20th October 2004 at 20:14
I think I was living just down the road from Shuttleworth last time she was restored, 80’s perhaps?
By: danohagan - 20th October 2004 at 20:09
Lovely looking aircraft – lets hope they have a bit more luck with her this time.

Evenin’ Rover hope your keeping well.
I see the Chief Engineer has a new set of overalls.
It is really good to see the Comet out and about again, I guess we will have to wait until the runway to be finished to see her stretch her legs.
Who was in the drivers seat?
