I somehow think they will be out of business very soon……

What do they say? A lie is around the world before the truth even gets its boots on.

Ah, but Ratners just re-branded and IIRC they are still going strong today. But I can’t remember the name.

The full speech of Ratners was actually all true, but we only focused on his single remark. In “Crap” he was comparing his Fashion jewellery to the great jewels of Russia and Egypt etc. so in the context he was honest.
However, bad press or bad news is faster than light.

Wasn’t there once a Jewellery entrepreneur who had lots of high street shops who commented that his goods were crap and only Idiots would buy them or words to that effect and has since regretted his comments when markets forces took hold ! ……

If he replied about Gay ,Ethnic,Age , or Religion he would be breaking the law ….perhaps one of our politicians might like to put his/her head over the parapet and forward a law to ban discrimination of Ex-military personnel !

You must be referring to Gerald Ratner. I remember seeing the newsreel footage of him saying that. The only thing that surprises me is that some of these people are surprised when their business collapses as a result of their ill thought out comments.

He’s right about ex forces calling it as they see it.

I’m sure he is.

But he was rather more specific than that, and I was curious as to whether it arose from anything concrete.

Anyway can you imagine what a w===nker he would be to work for? With this type of attitude who would want to.

Within this forum, yes.
But there are people sharing his views that would positively seek a job there.
With a workforce of such, he needs to find customers with the same view, thing is, there probably isn’t enough of them to make a viable customer base. So lets hope he goes bust, poor and destitute. Then he can crawl back under his stone.

And while all these idiots are in one place, the local chavs can go and create havoc upon them. Just a thought.

Is there any evidence for that, scotavia?

Or are we moving into the realms of fantasy now?

The real reason is that he cannot afford to be shown up at his workplace by ex forces employees, they have a habit of speaking up when a bullsh00ter is detected and they dont like being bossed around by someone who cannot organise anything well.

I did too and was trying to be doubly ironic with the icon! It doesn’t always work, does it?

I’ll get me coat.

We still have the right of freedom of speech (as long as we quote the politically acceptable point of view otherwise we get arrested)

So, as I said, we no longer have the right of freedom of speech.

When I was in the military I had a saying for people like that….

If it weren’t for people like me protecting people like him,
people like him would need protecting from people like me.
😀

I’d forgotten that one. It appears he has forgotten one thing. If it were not for the forces personnel he so despises he might well not be in the position to make such comments

The “Right of Free Speech” in 2010 is no longer as applicable as it was a decade ago. Indeed the phrase has become an oxymoron.

We still have the right of freedom of speech (as long as we quote the politically acceptable point of view otherwise we get arrested)

Freedom of speech is one thing.
But this is outright discrimination and it makes him no better than the biggots who plague our society.
It’s also perhaps not the best thing to say when you have a marine barracks a stones throw away.

My guess is, his place of business will be getting remodelled for him at the weekend, courtesy of the Royal Marines! (Not that I do or would condone such actions of course)

Under current employment legislation does he in fact have that right?
