Lovely stuff. Is it an original rebuild or a new build and is it going back to Australia? There’s a video on You Tube of the first flight of one of the UK built replicas which talks about the handling. Nice to see the Bristol 170 in the background of the second picture. Is it a ground runner?

Yes, the Bristol taxi’s at Omaka airshows and on special occasions.

Lovely second shot, Mark12. Thanks for posting it 🙂 I wasn’t aware the Swift had folding wings!

Edit: One of the hangars at Omaka becomes ‘Restoration Row’ during the bi-annual airshow, with various projects on display.

Thanks Mike. I think you may be being a bit pessimistic about the Swifts we saw in our youth. ‘CTF certainly looks airworthy at Shuttleworth and ‘BUU flies in Spain with the Fundacion (?) as EC-AAT but is really registered as EC-HAM. There is also ‘CGL at Cosford although I don’t think it’s a flier.

Stand corrected. ACGL was constructed essentially as a replica, never built to fly. It does contain some components from the original aircraft.

ozplane………… It is a rebuild of an original Swift. Jackson’s BCA Vol II reports that it was flying at Moorabin in 1967. The a/c was on the UK register as G-ACAG until December 1934. Great to see another airworthy Swift. Wonder if any more will emerge from the woodwork and return to the skies? Sadly none of the quartet that were around in my youth G-ABTC, BUS, BUU & CTF is currently airworthy but there are two excellent replicas capable of flight, G-ECTF & LCGL.

I believe VH-ACG is still extant in Australia. It is of course the unique Gipsy Swift.

Does anyone here have any idea what these are like to fly?
For some reason it looks a bit squirrely to me.

Looks like a really nice job on this one.

Thanks for the pictures Mk 12
