Take a look at this. I just found this link on the WIX Forum

I note it’s a year old, did they find a squadron of Fw190’s or anything of interest?

I vaguely recall in the news section? in Flypast (many years ago) of an underground bunker in Germany containing Luftwaffe aircraft.
This was located on an airfield later occupied by the Americans who simply concreted the entrances in as it was believed the aircraft were booby-trapped by the retreating Germans.
Anyone else remember this article?
I had a quick scan through some back issues but couldn’t find it. ๐
P.S. As an interesting aside, I read in one of the letters page (May 1989) about a chap who claims a friend of his was involved in the dumping of 400 Merlin engines in a Southwark council tip in the 1950’s.

About a year or two ago, they found one mainly complete FW190 inside an hangar (in East Berlin?), the Sovjets once blew up. It was left inside the hangar for nearly 15 years, but at one point in the 1960s, they decided to destroy this evil aeroplane by destroying the whole hangar … I have to look through my collection of “Flugzeug Classic” magazines.
I also remember an advert about the recovery of several intact Japanese airplanes inside an ancient bunker somewhere on a Pacific island. Highly classified – no more details given. You could give the people your money and they would go digging the planes out. I havenยดt heard about it any more.
I will look for those issues, wait until tomorrow morning…

Oscar my best friend has just been made trade comissioner for Queensland in Bangalore and is a warbird nut – I already have him following up stuff, is there something you would like to have him check out. He knows his way around as he is also an Army Colnel so there won’t be any stuffups.

Hi Kiwis and Nermal
Thanks for that and yes I think we are going over a past post but I think thats because there was no resolution last time.
Given last week I don’t think anything is impossible anymore but as you say I really do think if there was anything to this we would have known by now. Still we live in hope.
Kindest regards
John P

No, the engines were dug up at Frankfurt…..and I am sure it wouldn’t have gone unoticed if a bunch of aircraft were rolled out of an underground hangar ๐

Hi
I might be having a seniors moment but wasn’t that where the engines were dug up – I don’t think the aircraft were there – Perhaps I am getting this confused
