As requested by DGH but for all to share, here are six Chipmunks.
The one with no visible marks I think was taken in Canada but I do not know anything about it.
G-AOSO was taken on 19/09/59 and was taken by L. Davis.
G-AMMA was taken on 24/04/54 at Southend.

You are quite right Blue Max it is WB and not WD. A slip of the finger there. As for it not being Sywell, I will take your word for it but it says Sywell on the details listed on the negative bag. I only went to Sywell twice and that was for the last two PFA rallies held there in the late 70s. This ia a neg I bought some years ago.

Yep, another one here, but how many had one of there flights end up like this. 😀
WZ873, last heard of in Florida IIRC
That must have been a bear to carry, the second worse thing that can happen to an underslung load (USL) is it to start ‘flying’ as it can then cause some unusual handling characteristics….the worse is when a load starts oscillating, as this can lead to loss of control.
In either case if it endangers the aircraft and crew you have to jettison the load….. 😮

WK630, 2 AEF, Hamble, 25th November 1976 – “you have control”.
I flew in WK630 at Hurn on the 9/5/81 according to my F6822 with 2 AEF. Its still about in the UK on the Civy G- Register, seen it a few times when I have flown into variouse fly-ins. Keep meaning to chat with the owner to see if he could rekindle my first flight feeling in the old girl.

There are a lot of people around the country whose first experience of flying was in the Chipmunk and I would guess that most would relish the chance to repeat the experience. I know I would.

GAOSU is now sadly a wrecked airframe after a very heavy force landing almost a year ago near Elgin at the glider strip. The pilot survived and was badly injured but is now out of hospital. The wreck is stored at Kinloss ,I would guess that the pilot was wearing a helmet because the cockpit coaming has a huge dent in it.
I was also an air cadet and loved the chippie flights.
This aircraft has just been sold. The new owner might wish to update us with his plans next time he pop’s in here. 🙂

Isn’t it amazing how many people who love the Chipmunk first flew in them as cadets?

Wonderful as ever…..thank you so much for posting these photos.
I have always had a soft spot for the Chipmunk and it tooks me years before I managed a flight in one (spent years sat in the back of Harvards and heard all these ATC cadets saying that ‘all we fly in are Chipmunks’). Well, I would have gladly swapped!!
First flew in I think G-BCIH with Jim Bryant out of North Weald in the early 1990s and now have added three more to my total (BFAX and BXGP last year and BXNN a month ago).
Friends of mine in Belgium have G-AOJR (c/n c1/205) which became WB756 and then D-EGIM, OY-DFB and then SE-BBS before taking up a British Registration again. They and I have been looking for photos of her in her old colours and all we have found are when on the Swedish Register. We’ve come close to the RAF serial, but not the correct one, so does anyone out there know where we can find photos of her?
I’ve tried the usual photo libraries and drawn a blank, and hope that someone here might be able to help.
Best wishes,
Martin

Looks very like N7DW which was at Sun N Fun 2004 and has been for sale ever since. She needs a fair amount of work doing to her.
Thanks David, this information tallies with the database, so I would suspend my assumption that the plane is in Europe, unless someone knows different! 😉

I know that NP is hoping to gather a number at Abingdon next year (a former base of the type too) and I personally would love a large number at TW for the VAC’s September do.
