Completely Off-Topic

I went to see a ship being sunk yesterday – anyone wanna see the pics?

Not a propeller or a wing in sight! Well except for a few egg whisks with cameras.

Hmm. These would be the Icelandic patrol boats that took to running in from one side and suddenly turning across the patrolling frigates bows? Bit much to think that a single screw frigate would be able to manoeuvre or slow down quickly enough so that a collision did not take place – especially when the Icelandic patrol boats did exactly the same thing to fishing boats in order to cut their nets…
Rule of the sea and all that – those patrol boats put themselves in danger and were lucky that nobody died (that I could find, anyway).

A Sea Harrier attack would have been great!

An old warhorse doing it for an old warhouse – good idea.

FRADU Hawks will still be used, I believe – although they’re privately owned, they’re still considered part of the FAA.

Newboy – good point! I wish the U-boat commanders had been so considerate during their forays into the area during the last two wars!

Rob – I believe soon the Navy’s fixed wing element will be the Jetstream! A Sea Harrier attack would have been great!

I was thinking that the Navy should have finished her off with an air attack – Yeovilton & Culdrose both within easy reach.

Then (or maybe before) a flypast by the RNHF. There were literally thousands of people there, would have been a great publicity coup.

What a great opportunity they missed to show us all the Seahawk 😀

Think you got the better shots though, Newboy. It was a little bit out of reach for my S5000, even with the 1.5 extension lens (15x Optical).

Mind you, I got it on video too – and that’s quite nice.

When I get time I’ll turn it into a wmf.

I thought that too but then it only there for the divers and I guess a hull torn apart by high explosives would not make the safest diving environment.

Ok, they’re a bit grey – I’ll tart ’em up a bit, shrink em, and reduce the file size before putting them up.

Here’s a couple to be going on with:

HMS Scylla – has been prepared to be sunk of Whitsands Bay, Cornwall. The idea is that she’s going to be used as an artificial reef.

Since I line Murdoch’s pockets (Grrrrrrrrrrr) I watched the local SW BBC news on Sky. It said there’s a full programme about it at 7:30 on Wednesday BBC1 but I don’t know if it’s SW area only.
