I’ve long enjoyed his scores but had no idea until now about his passion for flight, nor his involvement with The Horsemen. The video about his composition for the team – surely a first anywhere? – had me in tears at a few points, especially when he talked about what flying meant to him and felt like. It was beautiful.

A real loss.

Very sad to hear. Classic FM were playing some of his compositions.

I cannot help but be reminded of Private Eye’s Malgorithms section when I visited the link in the first post. Without clicking on anything I was taken to a full page video advertising some sort of Honda bizjet. Poor timing perhaps?

A real shame – he’s written music for some of the best films….

Considerable impact in the film industry.

I wonder what happened? It seems he was a competent pilot.

Very sad.

His music was a classic illustration of the way in which a good score can really lift a movie. Terrible shame.

🙂

One of my favourite film composers, alongside John Williams and Hans Zimmer. All of his work was great, but for me his scores on the films Aliens and Star Trek II – The wrath of Kahn really put him at the top of his game.

I forget the name of the company (RS Warbirds??) But they had bought at least 2 batches of surplus Tucanos from Shawbury. And given that some in store have been there since the late 90s I suspect there will be more following.

These included the ex RAF a/c that someone in the UK bought with a view to flying on the UK civil register…. I wonder what happened to that idea!

I was surprised to see sixteen US-registered ex-RAF Tucanos. That one had somehow passed me by. A pretty hot warbird for sure.

Sad news…

He was known as “The Fourth Horsemen” by Ed Shipley, Dan Friedkin and Jim Beasley…
