Hi,
I know we have quite a few engineers/designers here so i was wondering if anyone with industry experience could recomend a CAD programme for general use, just to practice with. Ive used AutoCAD at college quite abit and im not too bad how ever personaly i dont find it the best to use so i was wondering what other programes i could use out there that wont break the bank and might be useful for uni etc?
Also im looking for something architects would use to 3D model a house (like you see on grand designs) just to play around with.
Ideas/thoughts?
Many thanks

We used to use Solid Edge at Uni which is really easy to pick up. Similar to Solid Works I believe. As for building design, I think all the Civil Engineers used AutoCAD. All available online, illegally.

CATIA, or Dog Ear as it was originally known as.
Minos 2. It’s free download. Don’t forget Google Sketchpad, again free.

CAD packages tend to be a bit like cars; people have preferences and you’ll always find somebody who’ll swear by such-and-such CAD package. I have a soft spot for AutoCAD but it was my first. 😀
I’m a bit out of touch but I’d recommend ‘Solidworks’, a US product owned by Dassault (yes, that Dassault), who developed CATIA.
You can’t afford CATIA. :diablo:
