Computer question.

I recently replaced my CD-RW with a new, faster one and while burning music CDs is easier and faster, transferring images from hard disk to CD using the new drive has become a chore.
So the question is can I re-install my old CD-RW (both are made by Phillips) and the associated software to run alongside the new one without the possibility of there being a conflict? The old CD-RW will replace my DVD-ROM which is set as master whilst the new CD-RW is obviously set as slave.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
