Concorde arrives in Scotland

G-BOAA the BA concorde destined for the Museum of Flight at East Fortune has arrived at Torness a day early thanks to favourable sailing conditions in the North Sea.

She was unloaded at the British Energy jetty beside Torness power station in an operation lasting one hour. A 4 month restoration project will now take place to bring the plane to it’s former glory and to display standard.

Torness is on the south east coast near North Berwick south of Edinburgh. Loch Ness is way up north near Inverness.

Here is a little display of the route Concorde took by tractor from Torness Power station (Concorde right) along the A1 to East Fortune (Concorde left)

Am I right if Torness is a small village next to Loch Ness?

Concorde G-BOAA is now safely housed in a hangar at the Scottish Museum of Flight, where she will be reunited with her wings, tail and undercarriage.

The operation to move her across fields on her special tractor unit was a complete success, thanks to local army engineers laying a metal track across open fields from the nearest point on the A1 to the museum itself.

She will be on display at an open day in July and then permanently displayed within a Concorde exhibition from the end of the summer onwards.

Read a report HERE and also view some interesting footage of the move. (requires Real Player)
