Because Airbus are a commercial company and not a preservation group – why should they spend large sums on non commmercial activity. I wonder if the East Fortune example which relegated much of the collection there to storage is still a massive hit!

It was with my son’s Beaver Scout troop a few weeks ago!

“Until of course they ran out of visitors.”

Well, Kev – you may well be right, but the Filton Concorde ‘attraction’ was hardly placed in an easily accessible location for potential visitors, neither was it reasonable value for money for all-year round gawpers. In the current financial climate, the building of the proposed museum close to the Mall, to the North of the airfield, is not likely to happen.

In the meantime, why could 216 not be placed in the Mall car park? I’m sure it would generate many more visitors there – particularly from husbands/partners who have given in to their females’ desire to go shopping in that adjoining establishment. That way, the shops and the Concorde exhibit would both benefit, at least until the permanent exhibition hall can be built.

I wonder whether this incident http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/7815875.stm has influenced the decisions being taken? 🙁

Possibly because there are so many still in existence? Doesn’t the report say that Airbus were maintaining the aircraft as a visitor attraction? Until of course they ran out of visitors.

Loopy Britain…..

Airbus have spent 1.4 million £ maintaining the Concorde,,,! Why did they not just build a hanger and save a fortune and a Concorde!
