Concorde was pushed back into her new hangar this afternoon.

My 6 year old has just seen the pictures above, he has never seen her before. He thought it was a brand new aircraft from Star Wars!
Ha! Love it!
It is very sad they wouldn’t let Branson operate Concorde for ostensibly petty reasons. She really should be in the air!
I have to agree with Lance, though. I’ve often thought it was a shame for G-BOAC to be left outside in the elements. She deserves better, so hopefully she’ll be happier in her new home!

I still maintain it’s a crying shame that Airbus and the other parties involved could not have made the effort to keep at least one example in airworthy condition. A great looking aircraft, and thanks again to Neil for the little impromptu tour he gave me a few years ago at MAN shortly after she arrived.
I REALLY must get down there this spring for another look before I go off filming again all summer… 😉
Well, I crunched some numbers (In an official role) for the operation of the Concorde fleet under Ricky Branson. He was prepared to fly 4 and use the rest as donors. It would have worked. Airbus were not prepared to hold or make the spares you see, nor were they prepared to maintain the airworthiness certs etc. Branson was prepared to pay them over the odss for this service. The answer was still no.
I really believe that “The establishment” and BA would not allow somebody, that in their opinion is a “little upstart”, to run the most prestigious aircraft…no, machine…..that man has ever built.

No matter how old she is or her technology is …she still takes your breath away with her beautiful and graceful lines

It is kind of a shame though that passengers on Landing/Departing flights at MAN wont get to see the old girl now she’s hidden. However i am very happy that someone is taking the care to preserve mans greatest technological achievement.
P.S I am hoping to visit MAN sometime next week, what day does the Saudi 777 operate apart from Monday?

As a matter of interest, what will happen to them?
Happen to what?

Very nice! Are they going to close up the front and back, or leave it like that just for protection from the elements?
Yes,the gable ends will put on during the rest of this week.

On a related note, the Concorde at LHR that used to sit by a fence on the eastern perimeter (amongst the BA maint hangars) that has been there for as long as I’ve been spotting there, has recently dissapeared. Anyone who knows the airport know where it’s gone?
BA have moved the Concorde to the remote parking area behind their main maintenance hanger, so it is offically out of view of the public eye, which is a great shame in my opinon.
If it were me, I would have done what they have now done in MAN, build a seperate hanger to house the a/c, but I would also go one step further by opening her up the public and offer tours for a small fee…would certainly generate some interest and also an additional revenue stream for BA, but they’re not likely to listen to me, are they?:D:diablo:

Nice to see the old lady indoors and out of the rain at last. 🙂
The hangar covering looks rather more secure than it did yesterday morning!
