Concorde — Wanna know where they are off to?

27th Oct Concorde
G-BOAD is retired to the Intrepid Air and Space museum in New York

31st Oct
Concorde G-BOAC is retired to the Manchester Airport viewing park

Nov 3rd
Concorde G-BOAE is retired to the Museum of Flight Seattle

Nov 10th
Concorde G-BOAG is retired to Granley Adams Airport, Barbados

Nov 17th
Concorde G-BOAF is retired to Filton, here place of birth.

BOAA and AB will stay in storage at LHR until further notice.

I have to agree with a guy on another forum I use, In all honesty who is going to see the one in Barbados? Whats the point! And also… BA please dont give one to the intrpid museum! It will look so out of place.

MAN yes, Seattle Yes, Filton, hell yes! Other NO!!!! I could think of better places.

Whats your views?

If you’re right, that means there will be two in Seattle, and that just doesn’t seem right to me.

As for the museum in Germany, way cool. Any visitor will be able to see the Concorde alongside one of these 😀

Better details, from Concordesst.com:

Against the wishes of the UK aviation community and general pubic at large, British Airways have decided that three of the fleet will go overseas.

Concorde G-BOAD will retired to the Intrepid Air and Space museum in New York. It will fly to New York on Monday October 27th , where work will begin to transport it onto a barge where it will be berthed next to the Intrepid Aircraft carrier. The museum have plans to protect it from the elements, but if their track record is anything to go by the aircraft could be in for a rough ride, as some of the aircraft on the actual carrier deck have seen better days. New York was seen as important to the success of Concorde within BA, and they feel strongly that one should go on display in the city.

On 31st Oct Concorde G-BOAC is retired to the Manchester Airport viewing park. It will initially go on display next to the BAE Systems RJX100, currently the final ever passenger jet built in the UK. The Airport have grand plans, that will see the aircraft put on display inside a purpose built facility.

G-BOAE will fly to Seattle (with a Tech stop possibly in Gander or Maine) on November 3rd. It will go on display in one of the world’s leading aircraft museums – The Museum of Flight, which included exhibits such as the worlds first ever Boeing 747 and a De Havilland Comet 4.

The most controversial decision appears to be to send Concorde Alpha-Golf to Barbados on Nov 10th. Although Barbados was important to the aircraft with it scheduled winter services, the island does not even an aviation museum. A local businessman has offered to construct a facility at Grantley Adams Airport. Although with people going to Barbados to relax and enjoy the sun, rather than going to see Concorde, the decision seems flawed, especially when there are a number of aviation museums or attractions in the UK that have missed out.

The world’s final ever Concorde flight will be on Nov 17th Concorde G-BOAF is retired to Filton. Concorde 216 was the final ever Concorde constructed and will initially be stored in the West Bay of the Brabazon hanger at the Airbus site. Eventually it will go on display when the Bristol Aviation heritage museum opens. Plans are afoot to display the aircraft at the Bristol Aviation Collection’s new museum at Filton during the Summer of 2004.

I dont know about where they’re gonna park ’em, but it would be a lot better to see Richard Branson buy them and keep them in the air.

Barbados is a supprise as apart from the Dak on the fire dump there are no non airworthy aircraft on the island so no experience of looking after it. They were doing a lot of building work at the terminal on my last trip a couple of months ago so I guess it will be incorporated into that? It certianlly needs it as it airport was a S******le. It was certianlly a hell of a experience at BGi when Concorder landed. Hundreds of people all ingoring the nor parking at the end of the runway signs. The fence is only 300yds from the threashold!Excellent!

Maybe they’ll reduce the area for spectators, or put it somewhere right in the way. I hope not because MAN has a real good reputation for being friendly to the enthusiast and non-enthusiast alike.

Well thats where I cant see the point of putting concorde on an aircraft carrier, sure It will be interesting to see it done, but question is why bother? Why not put it in JFK somewhere on display, after all that was the main airport it served.

The one at Filton will be on display to the public.

Kev I agree with you about cosford, they should have been given one to complete the BA collection that they already have.

I still dont think much on the barbados idea though

personaly I think UK should be more selfish on this issue….after all they are the proud owners of the bird and should try to keep as many with them as possible.

Concorde at MAN? Well, with the best will in the world it’ll rot away within 20 years unless they get it under cover. Then we can have discussions about whether it would be kinder to scrap it.

Barbados? Why not? It’s a warm country it might survive better.

Filton. Fair enough. But will people be allowed access to the aircraft there?

Seems Cosford lost out on the grounds of cost although the rest of the British Airways Collection is based there. The airfield is too short and it would have to be dismantled. (Concorde, not the airfield.)

Can’t comment on the American destinations, don’t know anything about them.

i find it interesting that a masterpiece of the European Aviation industry is being placed in Boeings backyard. Maybe it’s to remind Boeing of what they failed to achieve.

I think that BA should rightfully retire one of the concordes at Barbados as it has done that route for years, and it will be a popular site at the airport

I agree with some and not others.I think New York is fair enough as that really has been her 2nd home over the years and a lot of people would get to see her there.Seattle ? I dont see any valid reason why one should be put there ? But Grantley Adams ! Why on earth ? Might attract the odd yank off a cruise ship but it seems a bit of a waste to me.
