I’m looking for photos of the four Buchons that the CAF had from 1968.
From Harlingen to Midland all phoptographs will be welcomed.

Four Buchons for the CAF
Here is what Les Hunt reported in ‘Veteran and Vintage Aircraft’ – 1970 edition for the Confederate Air Force entry.
You have to bear in mind that ‘ownership’ can some times mean custodianship.
Also at that time there were very favourable tax advantages to donating aircraft to the CAF and still having access to fly it etc.

The Buchons that I know the CAF have had were NX8575 (crashed and destroyed), the aircraft now owned by Harold Kindsvater (N109W – which had an unfortunate accident during CAF ownership) and the one they have now that has recently re-flown, N109ME.
According to Leonard Mosley’s book (and the documentary on the second disk of the special edition Battle of Britain DVD), the CAF had bought four Buchons and they were loaned to the filmmakers on the proviso that the CAF guys flew them. I think. 😉

Speaking with ‘Connie’ Edwards a little while after the BoB film, it was very clear that he had had a very serious ‘parting of the ways’ with the Confederate Air Force guys. My understanding of the post film US bound airworthy Buchons was that the CAF had one and ‘Connie’ had the rest. I could be wrong.

Fair enough!
Wish someone would buy the two-seater and get it going again! 😀

DazDaMan,
I have conflicting storys on how why and when Connie got the planes. This is one of the things I hope to clear up this Fall when I head down to headquaters.

I thought Connie was given the Buchons in lieu of payment?

Hi Septic,
When the BoB movie was over Connie and the CAF bought the Buchons they got five of them while Connie keep the rest.
I’m working on a book on the early warbird collectors and have been researching Connie and the early days of the CAF.

Thanks crazymainer, any help will be gratefully appreciated.
When I said four Buchons, I hadn’t counted Mr Edwards collection, or were there others.
