Connie Edwards – 10x Me109/Buchons…latest pics

I know someone posted the link to this thread on WiX last week but its since been added to including CE’s incredible collection of ex BoB aircraft in their original paint, including the ultra-rare two seater… MK12 might also be interested in the pic of the spit….

http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11006&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30

which leads me to pose this question:

the two seat Buchon…

after a safe rebuild/return to airworthiness do you:

1. respray it in an original Spanish scheme as it would have worn in service?
2. respray it in a spurious, but attractive, WW2 Luftwaffe scheme
3. preserve it in its original BoB film markings*

* could this be the first example of recognition of a film as a historical event over and above/instead of the event it itself commemorated?!!

Sad really to see them collecting dust and bird droppings, but at least they are under cover, how were they taken over there after the filming and what are the intentions of the owner, not a lot by the look of things. It could be a classic case of destruction by will contention in the long run.

Look on the bright side…these have been preserved in a “Time warp” situation for almost 40 years. If Edwards hadn’t bought them and put them away, who knows how many would have been lost by now…remember the high attrition rate for warbirds in the 60-70s? Or worse, they might have been scrapped if no one else wanted them (notice how few “He-111″s are still around). Either way, here’s a great collection of ac and parts preserved for future generations.

I’ve met Edwards…friendly (he answered my questions about his collection and let me climb through his Albatross) but reserved. He’s not the type to destroy by neglect…he knows where his stuff is and that it’s safe in his storage.

Pete, the summary of how they got there (from WIX) is that Mr Edwards settled the outstanding wages due to the B of B film aircrew. In return he became the owner of the aircraft. And has taken good care of them.
It is certainly true that the film saved many aircraft from an obscure end.

I’ve asked this question before, during the making of the BoB film, these once vibrant a/c were due to make a pass at the Hucknall Airshow, but it never happened, and I was sitting on the railway embankment with my Dixons 35mm waiting for it to blow my mind, oh, sorry, freeloading at the age of 15, slash my wrists, does anyone know anything about this.

What if you could buy one?

Do you think anyone would buy a flying Bouchon? What about the costs?

Jeez.

That place certainly gets the old juices flowing.
The Spit looks as if it was parked up after filming BoB and hasn’t flown since.
I reckon if she was started up you’d be sneezing for a month with all the dust
that blew off her.:D

Those Buchons and that new DB601.Hmmmmmmm.

I think I’d repaint the two-pew Buchon in her BoB colours.Although not strictly accurate,I think more people would relate to it rather than if done in the original Spanish airforce colours.

Hi–

Re the dual Buchon…first it gets taken to bits and gone through completely, then, a la the Willow Grove Me262, it gets “photocopied” for production of four or five more Buchon duals. Then it gets put back together, finished precisely in one of its EdA liveries (I’d prefer to see the overall royal blue), and gets packed off to Cuatro Vientos where (imo) it belongs…

One of the single-seaters ought to be preserved in BoB film markings, though. I wonder how much more impetus the Warbird movement picked up because of that one movie?

Crikey,

That’s an impressive collection of airframes……wonder if they’ll all be restored one day.

I’d love to get in there and have a look around.
