Connie on the way to Duxford!!!

Hi All,

The Dutch Connie is on her way to Duxford right now.
Yesterday there was to much mist at Kef. to commence the flight.

Below you see two messages I just picked up in a newsgroup:

=====================================================================

Hi Erik,
Further to your posting, the flight plan filed for N749NL, had it
routing over Belfast, then to the Isle of Man, on to Wallasey
( Near Liverpool ), and then just south of Manchester, to a VOR at
TRENT, and onwards to Duxford.
It was supposed to leave Keflavik at 10.00Z and was 05.15 hrs en
route to Duxford, so it would have been over the Manchester area at
about 14.35, to 14.50Z ( 15.35 Local to 1550).
Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow, and with clear skies forecast,
should make a wonderful sight.

Best wishes,

John.

=====================================================================

Hi Erik

I have the okay from the boss so will be leaving shortly. Just phoned
Duxford
again and they still expect it between 14:15 and 14:20 so fingers
crossed!

=====================================================================

Good Luck,

Leo Bonnet.

Andrew – It’s because your turning it quite sharply and your using the stbd engine power to achieve this hence it tries to bend the leg.
It[‘s not unusual – infact we did a similar sharp taxying turn with a Tornado at Cottesmore and managed to take the tyre off the bead i.e deflate it.

She arrived at Manston at about 5.30pm on Wednesday according to the guys at the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Building…I went and took a peek at her through the fence…she looks gorgeous…:)

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-09-02 AT 07:40 PM (GMT)]I am one of the few lucky presspeople that will have an air to air encounter with the Connie coming saturday, over the North Sea while it is enroute to Holland. Maybe a P-3 Orion (born Electra and the Lockheed follow up of the Connie) will also join, for a historic vintage Lockheed formation.

Shall post the pictures saturdaynight.

Damien,
Excellent newsworthy pictures well done,she looks beautiful, however I’m slightly confused as to where you were when taking pictures 2 & 3 in the sequence. Its seems as if you were ‘live’ side, but the backgound looks wrong for that angle, are they by any chance flipped, I assume that they are digital photos given the time that You produced them in.
Not a critisism, just intrigued.

Phil

Blimey Damien, that was quick!

Nice piccies 🙂 Good to meet you, too.

The Connie started her engines dead on 16:30 and took off a few minutes afterwards, and did one of those steep-turn banking flypasts we usually only dream of! Now she is probably landed already in Manston, or nearly so.
