[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-12-02 AT 09:58 AM (GMT)]Oke David,
If you mail me your emailadress I’ll sent some info on the Spanish Dc’s. Can take some time as I must contact my Spanish sources for this, and this isn’t the right time. Pleae mail the adress to soupart@hotmail.com

Another question, I noticed your Fokker S-11 shot in FlyPast, why isn’t the nose and tail painted orange? Like this the Dutch Navy never flew them. Best Wishes, Roger

Roger if you can send me something firm on the DC-7C’s in Spain Iwill have a go at rounding up some interst in the B.O.A.C example.Unfortunately not many of these machine are seen as glamourous compared to warbirds so they sit in the shadows -how sad!

RE: Connie’s in Europe

That’s the fate of most propliners. E.g. in Geneve they are using a still complete DC-7C for (non destructive (yet)) fire training, in Spain, two flyable DC-7C’s are for sale, nobody is interested. It is a shame that no Carvair was ever preserved, and why isn’t there a Bristol Freighter “in safe hands”. It isn’t too late yet, but in 5 years it is. It is just that nobody cares. For the price of a Spitfire hulk, beautifull other aircraft can be obtained, but it looks as if they prefer the hulks over the props! BW Roger

RE: Connie’s in Europe

The numbers lost in the last few years has been quite severe . It’s a great pity more wasn’t done to preserve a few more .

RE: Connie’s in Europe

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-12-02 AT 10:46 PM (GMT)]David, all that is left of the Lanzarote Connie is in my room and in the Aviodome. I was there in 1984, and it was just scrapped. However, the entire field was littered with its remains. I “found” instruments, part of the rudders, some complete windows, a lot of id and construction plates, and a lot more. I all collected it and brought it with me to Holland. Some parts are on display in the Aviodome for their Connie exhibition. I’ll have them back next week I think as they close on Jan 6. The Connie at Malta was also broken up, but the tail and engines survive at Tal Quali. The Faro Connie was burned and scrapped. There is a complete Connie cockpit on display at Lisbon airport (in the terminal), and another cockpit from a HI registrated Connie is preserved in the Swiss. Photo: Seen shortly before it was scrapped, the remains of 48-608. It donated many parts to other “still flying” Connies. BW Roger

RE: Connie’s in Europe

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-12-02 AT 08:34 PM (GMT)]Hello David,

Looks like only one is in real danger.

Germany, two Super Connies are preserved at Munchen and Hermeskeil. Safe for the moment, but they are kept outdoors.

Holland: One Connie safe for the future, to be kept indoors in the future, but as a “flyer” there is always some risk.

France: The Paris Connie is being converted into an Air France machine at the moment, the Super Connie at Nantes is being overhauled and also relatively safe, only the Super Connie at Quimper ” Disco le Moulin” might be in danger and I doubt if it survives another decade.

England: Wroughton Connie, safe for the future.
