Well today was the big day for BRS with CO starting EWR flights.
20 May 2005
1st New York Flight Takes Off Today!Today, Friday 20th May, sees Continental Airlines, the worldโs sixth largest airline, commence daily non-stop Boeing 757 flights between Bristol and New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport.
The new scheduled flight is the first daily transatlantic service from the South West of England and links Bristol with the worldโs financial capital and the number one U.S. business and tourism destination. The route also provides a new gateway to the region for North American visitors, creating additional inbound tourism opportunities.
Andrew Skipp, Managing Director of Bristol International said: โThe commencement of direct daily transatlantic services to New York from Bristol International Airport is the most significant development in the airportโs 75-year history. As one of the fastest-growing regional airports and the main airport for the South West, Bristol International has worked tirelessly with organisations and businesses in the region to get the South West on the map and secure its first transatlantic route.

Shame there isn’t a picture on the airport website of staff outside the aircraft etc as the BHX website does that. Anyway wish this service the best of luck ๐
Anyone care to comment on how they think the service will do?

Be interesting to see what loads will be like on the CO EWR service.
Anyone any info ?
Suppose the first few flights will be sold out with the publicity.

Very nice shots – even taking the weather conditions into account. The wheels on the Lear Jet look too small for the size of the aircraft.

The 1st flight was yesterday when there was a water salute.
Just as well.

Continental at BRS
The first Newark flight into Bristol…
…was yesterday – so I went to see today’s.
There was plenty of bizjet/bizprop traffic too, probably to do with the FA Cup Final.
A wet start gave some “interesting” conditions, but it brightened up nicely during the morning.
Some pics..

Groovy looking Learjet ๐

Cheers,
Phil.

Edited to delete original message, the CO that landed at Shannon was the DUB-SHA-EWR service.
Hope it does well at BRS, BFS starts next week.
By: Spence_CWL - 20th May 2005 at 17:31
this is dead cert to be a success, just wish it went 2 CWL instead ๐
By: LBARULES - 20th May 2005 at 16:33
I think it will do excellently personally, as all the CO regional services seem to do.
Hope it does, would love to see CO at Leeds when the runway extension is sorted.
