——————-
I had been waiting at gate 86 in Newark for around an hour. I watched a few movement on the apron which included a Lufthansa A340-300, masses of Continental, USA 3000, Jet blue and many more.
I snapped a few photos but the glass was a little dirty so a lot of the photos were ruined.
I took a photo of a 757 which turned onto and parked up on gate 86. Great, another 757! woot!
After a little time the passengers had gotten off and the plane was catered and ready for my flight.
As we boarded I noticed the interior was not unlike the one I got in Edinburgh. The seats lacked the comfortable headrests of the International configured 757s but other than that were more or less identical.
The flight was I guess around 50% full. I was the sole occupant of my row (row 22) and sat in seat 22F. The taxi to the runway took forever. One of the runways was closed leaving just 2 open. One for landings one for take offs. Consequently queues had built up for departure. We were number 19 for takeoff and sat on the ground for a good 45 minutes.
Once airborne a drinks service immediately commenced after the initial climb out.
The in flight movie, “The Day after Tomorrow” began. On this flight one had to purchase the headphones for $5 if you didn’t already have any. Luckily I had the foresight to take the headphones with me from the EDI-EWR flight.
I ordered a sprite from the drinks trolley and received the usual clear plastic, branded, cup full of sprite but was also handed a packet of peanuts and the rest of the can of sprite.
Shortly after that we were served a lunch snack. This consisted of a nice little turkey and salad roll, a pack of cleaned and peeled baby carrots and a single Twix finger. The roll was small but delicious. The carrots were crunchy fresh and quite nice. The twix tasted like a twix  lol.
The flight was pretty smooth with the sun getting lower in the sky as we approached Florida. I took a snap of the cabin, again with my small digicamera so not the best in quality.
As we descended toward Palm Beach it got a bit bumpy, probably due to the extensive cloud formations in the area. The in flight film continued well into the descent and finished around 10 minutes before touchdown.
I tried to take photos of the approach and landing but it got too bumpy and any photos taken were a blurry mass of colour, LOL.
As we parked at the gate I spotted a Beech 1900D of Continental connections (operated by Gulfstream international) getting prepared to depart to the right of my 757. “That’s probably my ride” I thought as I waited for my turn to get off the plane.
I walked up a pleasantly air conditions air bridge and into the quaint terminal of West Palm Beach airport, the gate right next door was labeled CO9291 to Nassau.
What a service… no walking miles and miles of terminal to catch a connection.
The time was 19:50 and flight 9291 to Nassau was scheduled for a 20:00 departure. Perfect timing!
the photos:
1) Turning and climbing out of Newark
2) The cabin
3) Lovely lunch
4) Approaching Palm Beach… nice cloud formations and stunning lighting!

Great report. Sandy. Good photos. Unlucky about the 45 minute wait on the taxi way.

Another fabbo report Sandy – nice piccies too. Not a bad looking lunchbox you’ve got there! , but enough teasing – give us the details of your bumpy ride into NAS
German joke (a contradiction in terms?) for Sandy – was it naß in NAS? I’m sorry I couldn’t come up with anything better, forgive me! 😮
Actually it was very warm and humid in NAS… he he

You were lucky to get such a nice day climbing out of Newark, both times when we took off for LAS and BHX it was overcast and u were in the clouds within 8 seconds, oh well saw New York anyway.
I must say i loved everything about CO, there food 😀 i had a very similer meal on the EWR-LAS and LAS-EWR routes which were very nice i thought, the cabin with pleatiful room i thought, friendly cabin crew and pilots.
I would definenatly reccomend CO……anyway Sandy, that is a great report and love the pics, especially that one climbing out of EWR and the cabin shot, reminds me of my four great flights with them 😀

Glad to see Continental are still serving a meal on their domestic flights, unlike a lot of other US airlines. I like CO, a quality carrier!

So you had the unfortunate timing of being in EWR this month during the runway closure. At least the weather was pleasent or it could have been quite a day on the ground in New Jersey. I like you pictures on departure. It looks like you were on the departure for a takeoff from 4L.
Ugh, I’ve had my fill of those sandwich baskets. 🙂

Excellent report, excellent pics, biggest surprise being the inflight
meal…I have never had an inflight meal on a USA domestic flight yet. Assuming it was a domestic.?
It was a domestic yes….. being from one US airport to another.

An interesting episode in your tale Sandy. Will you be telling us about your meeting with Bahamas Air in a future part ?
Unfortunately I cannot disclose anything from my meeting. I didn’t get to meet the brass at Bahamasair as they were out of town. but I spoke at great length with my contact over dinner and we agreed on a course of action.
So the visit was fruitfull none the less
