Out of interest, just been checking Continental’s schedules for next summer and spotted:
BRS-EWR 757 new service(we all know about)
BFS-EWR 757 new service(ditto)
EDI-EWR 757 as current
GLA-EWR 757 (Down from a B767-400)
BHX-EWR 757 X2 as current
MAN-EWR 767-400 (Down from a B777)
LGW-EWR 777 & 767-200(Down from a B777)
Those 757s will be busy; I thought GLA route was still doing well despite new EDI service so why capacity cut?

Possibly but the first 5 destinations will be operated by 757s; none of which are being displaced from the reduction in capacity elsewhere..
I was just giving exaples of their expansion. I think its the Moscow/Lagos/China routes which are putting pressure on the fleet. China would be with the B777 and Moscow/Lagos with the B767. Also I think the EWR-Santo Domingo routes needs an B767 or B777 for cargo

Downgraded or not…at least they are still commited to the routes…
Yes indeed, that is the main point. It’ll be an interesting time for Mr Bethune next year in terms of his future fleet aspirations I think ?

I guess some traffic which would have transferred at EWR has been lost to bmi’s new MAN-LAS service. Also, AA is returning next summer with BOS-MAN (752); nothing yet on their website regarding extending the new MIA service to all year round – suppose it will depend on demand.
I thought MAN-LAS on bmi was to do with Virgin Holidays. In the past wouldn’t they have just sent passengers on VS’s LGW-LAS instead on CO via EWR

I will certainly miss the B777 at MAN, but the B767s are still nice!

Ah you beat me to it.
CO are introducing new or expanding some other long haul routes in 2005 apparently. So thats why some UK destinations may find themselves downgraded

I remember the DC10 operating into BHX. IIRC this only lasted one season; a local spotter told me they had a problem handling the a/c(not sure why); so it reverted back to a 757.
Well maybe that was the case then but they can handle 777s and 747s now so……it wasnt that long ago? quite odd

CO used to send DC-10s into BHX, there are a few pics on A.net etc, i dunno whether they tried this as a upgrade or whether it was pulled because of the retirment of the DC-10s, bad pax loads but as you can see BHX is more populer now with two 752s a day….and who knows maybe in the future it will get upgraded but CO seems to be happy with the way its goin now.
