Hi All.
Does anyone know of a chain guard for a Mk.Va Spitfire control column that is for sale?
I have built a replica column from “top to bottom” using a replica spade grip. I am quite pleased with the reults but i cant make the guard due to lack of bending equipment.
If a guard is not available, is there anyone who could make one for me?
I know spitfire spares sell one but i would like a more authentic looking one if possible. My next project will be to make the aileron control drum… unless anyone knows of one for sale!!
Regards to everyone
Ken

Hi oldgit158. mail sent.
By: QldSpitty - 20th July 2012 at 13:21
I posted my message on the 17th and Qldspitty posted the drawing on the 18th , and as my crystal ball is currrently on loan to G4S I was not aware until then that they knew each other or that Gary was involved in the project.
He was for a while as parts chaser until he got ill with a back injury. He is now in the USA .

I am wracking to old grey cells here but I am sure I was told about 10 yrs ago of a guy in your neck of the woods by the name of Gary Oschdalin who had loads of spitfire bits including a full control column.
I see the legend “reference Gary Oschaldalin” on Qld’s drg, so I’m guessing he’s aware of him!

Thanks very much for your attached drawing.

Tube
Hi guys, here is the old unedited drawing for the tube and elevator control tube position.
Cornovii the GA drawing for F20 fwd is part number 30027-1125.It is shown in the GA drawing 30027-22G as the top right hand view..

Qldspitty & vacb
Thank you both very much for that information. My elevator control link would appear to be .5″ too low. Fortunately, i have not fixed it in place so no problem to move it.
Qldspitty
Is it frame 20 (after portion) 30027 sht.102G or 2063G OR 30027 SHT.22G or is it non of these?

The critical measurement is the height for the elevator control tube on the column as this needs to line up with the bellcrank behind F11:p
The information I have says that the centre of the holes to mount the elevator control link (30033/157?) to the control column (30033/17) lie at 12.2″ and 13.5″ from the uppermost end of the control column tube.
Presumably the centre line for the elevator control tube (30033/227) lies between these two holes.

If no luck there then can you post a drawing denoting what dimenions you require and no doubt somone on here will be able to assist.
Am I right that you also need tail frame 20 measurments?

Naaaaw
I speak on behalf of many who say your all have done a bloody marvelous job so no one is having a go..buts its the beauty of sharing information via the forum..finding out those titbits of info we normally would not have.:D
Yes it is great sharing.Thats one reason why I started was lack of info for us bottom feeders..Just having a cranky pants day.Last 7 years have been well….interesting but know how hard it is to get info needed for that one part to finish off an assembly.Still have a lot of missing parts of the puzzle (my empire for F20 fwd drawing..with measurements 🙂 ) to go.

Where are the photos?
By: cornovii - 16th July 2012 at 21:42
Hi Thank you guys for your comments. Much appreciated. The gun button is the only original item on it. The yolk bolt was made from a original drawing so was very useful as a datum point. I have a small collection of G45 cameras. I can connect the column to a air supply and operate the camera via the gun button or the camera button. I also made the 5D534 gun button holder that is operated by the pneumatics. Just need the 8 Brownings now!!

Are you sure these pics are of a replica????
fantastic achievement Ken

Indeed, lovely work. Is the gun button original? If not it’s much better than the repros most people are selling.
