I just thought I’d do a picture post in a small tribute to what I consider the most beautiful of the Century-Series fighters and one of the most beautiful airplanes ever designed.
Hope you guys enjoy.
An F-102 doing it’s duty to country
An excellent B/W photo of the beautiful Deuce.

Three reasons the Russians were smart to stay away during the Cold War.

Stunning!

The business end of the Deuce.

Up close and personal!

Four-ship of sparkling F-102’s.

The massive Dagger

The Deuce goes to visit the VC over ‘Nam. (You guys enjoy your little campfires now. 🙂 )

Anyone?

Well that’s rather depressing.
Can they not get plans of the F-102 and build completely new parts and whatnot?
I mean, if enough money was put into the project, it would be possible right? Or am I just dreaming a little bit too much?
Wouldn’t it be exciting to see the Delta Dagger fly again?

F-102A 56-1080, in what appear to be c/o markings of the 86FIW, then based at Hahn in Germany.
Phantom,
No way you’ll ever see an F-102 fly again. There are far too few left (the bulk has been shot down after being rebuilt to PQM-102 target drone). Even more so, that drone program used up most if not all of the spares still available. The few existing airframes are all very old now too (haven’t flown for more than 20 years), and both the Greeks and Turks really like it to have derelict airframes around their airbases. Certainly none of the Greek examples will ever be able to fly again, and i don’t think it’s much different for Turkish ones.
I think the best chance of having a J57 engine in action would be an F-8.

Woops – next time I’ll make it smaller if someone can tell me how!!
Still struggling to get to grips with the technology! Should I just compress the image more?

I hope this attaches itself! This was taken by my father at Wethersfield in about 1963 – which is pretty much where it all began for me.
Any info that anyone can tell me about this – eg unit/base – would be appreciated.

I agree. The F-102 is one of the planes I picture when I think of just a fighter plane in general.
The pointed nose and those beautiful delta wings. The F-102 is a thing of beauty. I look at the B-58 at its larger bomber brother.

Kids Stuff
The 102 has always reminded me of the classic sort of plane you draw as a kid, y’know, with all those pointy bits – just so ‘cold war’ in appearance.
My personal favourite of all the 50’s – 60’s pointy noses is the B-58 Hustler with full on tanks and bombs – what a cab!

TF-102A
Seeing a Deuce on the air show circuit would indeed be quite a treat for me. I suppose it would be a bit like seeing a Lightning if I was British, but since I’m American I’d like to see the Deuce.
Arthur, do you think that this could ever happen? An F-102 on the airshow circuit?
By the way, for what purpose would they have censored the number on that Bear?
And here’s your TF-102. I meant to put one in, but I unintentionally skipped it. A very interesting design nonetheless.

(Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the two-seater used over ‘Nam just like the single-seater?)

airworthy
Yes these were great fighters and I enjoyed seeing them on the airshow circuit. It is a sahme why noone has redone one of these to fly again same with the F101 Voodoo

No TF-102s? Those were cool!
Pathetic by the way, how they censored the construction number of that Tu-95KD on the upper pic with the Keflavik Deuce.
