Converting a .mix image file to something useful

I was sent a few photos by a visitor to my site, and for the life of me I cannot get them opened! I have been unable to get in touch with the visitor again, so here’s hoping someone on here can help.

The files have a .MIX extension and a bit of searching has revealed that this may be a Microsoft Picture It! file type. I’ve tried several Microsoft programs, Photoshop, ACDsee and a few other things I could think of, but cannot open the files. Closest I can get is to insert them into a Word document. Word can display the thumbnails (so I know they’re images allright!) but fails to insert them due to an error.

So who knows a way to get these images converted into JPEGs for example? Anybody who has Picture It! installed?

Thanks for the tips! I’ll have a go at that, but I suspect that Word will not cooperate as I have tried inserting the image into a file before and it produced an error. The images may all be faulty of course without me knowing it!

I’ll have a search for those programs.

If you can open the file in MS word then all you need to do is save the word file as an html.

File->Save As->(choose)Web Page

It will save the picture as a jpeg in yourfilename_files directory

Word will also convert the file from .mix, but you will need to have your original install CD available in order for it install the required converter.

I would think that if you can see the image as a thumbnail word is able to read the format. Try the above option and let us know if it works.

I think you’d have to got a Microsoft PictureIt or the discontinued PhotoDraw 2000 for it to open…
Better download a copy using bittorrent… I’m sure people are sharing it online. Good luck hunting!

Microsoft makes the weirdest file types and haggles you to buy their products…
