Converting bmp to JPEG

hi

I have something like 6000 bmps (bitmap images) on my computer, which are taking up too much space, so I need to convert them to jpgs to save space.

Im obviously not going to convert them all manually – i have better things to do with my life – so I would like to find a program that can convert them automatically in bulk for me. I know that there are freeware programs out there that can do it, but has anyone used any of them, which they can recommend to me? I’d like to save them as high quality jpgs – in better quality than what Paint is capable of – something like Photoshop quality.

any help would be great

thanks.

The easiest program I have used is Irfranview.

Its batch processing capability is excellent… just open your folders that have the bitmap images in and select “add all” to put them into a batch processing list. Set the level of compression for the jpeg and when you are ready click on start and it will work away till it has completed the job. You can add files from all over your computer to the list and it seems to have a very good quality compression algorithm as the pictures are very compact but still good quality.

(it is also free last time I looked at www.irfranview.com )
