I have a small Spitfire clip which was ripped from a History Channel episode back in 2005. I would love to upload it on YouTube but besides the HC logo it is also marked “Imperial War Museum”.
Who should I ask for permission then?

Then i dont see the point of posting it….if its already on there why bother…
I said it *might* be there. I made a search attempt but – you know – that particular clip is unique, but trying to locate it among many others tagged “Supermarine Spitfire” on Youtube is like looking for a needle in a haystack. So I will post it myself once I’ve solved the copyright mystery.
And, by the way, I have just mailed the IWM.
Many thanks for your help.

Peter if the HC bought the clip off the IWM surely the copyright for the film belongs to the HC rather than the IWM:confused:
HC had two options, to license the footage in that one programme, or to buy exclusive rights. The former is so much cheaper that it is likely that is what they did. So copyright will still rest with the IWM.

probably on the tube anyway…everything else is:eek:
Ha Ha. True, the clip has been around for four years and might be already there. But I don’t want to be the (only) one who gets in trouble for a possible copyright infringment…

It would still be a good idea to contact the original owner and seek permission first. The original owner being the museum.

Many thanks, that’ll do.

I’m guessing the footage originally came from the museum so perhaps dropping them an email may be a good starting point? If they’re not the copyright holders they’ll almost certainly know who is so they should be able to help further.
