Corgi model confusion???.

Today I was surprised to find a small model shop that had a Corgi English electric Lightning in stock, so without any argument money changed hands and it is now sat in my display cabinet.

Here the problem begins!!, the picture on the box is of XR718 (tailcode BK1) with an all over grey colour scheme, indeed this is the model contained in the box but the problem is the description on the box says the contents are of XP749, also the accompanying certificate states this too with a brief description of XP749’s history.

Is there a story behind this most amazing of mix ups, the shopkeeper assured me that it was brand new and unopened and that I had the right contents.

Regards,

John.

After having done a little research and the usefull information received on the thread, the run of 4000 are all the same, picture and model are that of XR718 but the text is from XP749.

Interestingly XR718 was modeled twice by Corgi, once as 11SQD, and once as 5SQD.

This one was cheap £25!!!! but alas he only had one left otherwise I would have had ten 😀 .

S&M produce some very different and welcome decal subjects. Ive got a set for the Airfix Comet so that Canopus can be modelled and also a Queens Flight BAe 146. The quality of printing isnt I will admit upto sheets from companies such as Aeromaster but still more than acceptable. And they must be applauded for their subject matter.

Thanks AR, worth a shot! What scale are the S&M decals? I might build a 1/12 scale 111 or Trident, so could scan them and blow them up to the right size

Viscount is 1/96 scale for Glencoe kit and BAC 1-11 and Trident are 1/144th scale for Airfix kits. Incidently, S&M will release a new 1/144th plastic kit of a Viscount next weekend and I think have Channel decals for it.

Albert,

A couple more suggestions for Corgi:

B-25J N62163 “Killer B” from Tom Reilly’s Flying Tigers Collection and Antony Hodgson’s G-CTIX PT462 “SW-A” (or the Grace Spitfire) Spitfire T Mk.IX.

I would imagine that there would be a modest number of sales to anyone with a connection to or interest in these aircraft.

Presume you mean a Viscount and DC-3, as there are no other Corgi subjects suitable? Actually there are new decal sheets just released by S&M Decals for a Channel Aitrways Visciunt, One-Eleven and Trident which I obtained last weekend. Regret can’t get Corgi to do small airlines that won’t sell worldwide. 🙁

Have seen the 2007 prices from Corgi – ouch! big price increases.

Agree Corgi do not do small non global airlines yet produce models with only a very limited range of operators

AR, Any chance you can persuade them to do any Channel Airways schemed models, please? 😀

I thought this website might have some info about it, but the images just confirm the situation, nothing more: http://www.tricatus.co.uk/AA32304.htm

Aha, I know the answer to this as it is me that supplies all Corgi’s research material. They had photos of both machines to work from, that were in an identical scheme, but had to have both to show positions of all the markings. The model is completely authentic for one machine and the text is accurate for the other. Somewhere along the line, they put one serial on the model and the other in the text and as I never saw the prototype model before it went into production, I was unaware the serials of the model and text didn’t match up!
