Whilst having a rummage around I came across these photos that my father-in-law took back in the early eighties.
Always remember as a kid when the museum first opened it’s doors, and if memory serves on either the first or last Sunday of every month?
Allso the local reaction when they painted the hangar doors bright orange!
It’s certainly come along way since!

Excellent.
I think the reason so many exhibits were outside at this time was the cladding of the roof in the top hangars, i can remember them before they were clad and working long sundays with frozen fingers , ears and worse!! That Lib brings back some memories, like the day the sycamore ( i think) fell off the roof and dropped on top of it! ooops!

Shame to think quite how many of those were scrapped or sold later-the Victor, Canberra and Varsity for starters 🙁
