Sorry if it has already been asked, couldn’t find a similar thread on search. I have heard the Cosford Comet is to lose its current paint scheme (2 fingers up to BA?? :dev2: ) before it is moved indoors. Anyone else heard similar? also, if RAFM cosford are removing all vestages of BA will the CASA JU52 lose its pre war BA scheme and revert to its Spanish Air Force colours??

No, I’ll have the Mk 1 ta very much! Its much more relevant to the Hatfield area than anywhere else.

Do the RAFM need to preserve two Comets?

I quite agree with Bruce, Lyneham is scheduled to close in 2012 and there are no plans for XK699 on the gate there. It should go to Hendon or Cosford, probably the former in view that Cosford already have a Comet, which should be repainted as XM823.

I believe the CAA wouldnt allow the Brunty Comet to fly Peter. Something to do with it having a modification whilst in RAF service so that it now sports Nimrod main gear instead of Comets. A major paperwork exercise I think.

The Cosford Comet has more than just the RAF History, as before it was converted, it was F-BGNY with Air France. However, the Oval windows would preclude an accurate scheme.
In its RAF days, it sported a number of rather ‘odd’ schemes.
Personally, I believe that they should display the Comet 2 at Lyneham at Cosford, as it is far more relevant.

Whats the staus on the brunty comet anyways? She was going to be made flyable at one point but then nothing?

Bruntingthorpe’s Comet is the ex RAF example named Canopus. Still very much in RAF colours although now sporting a very non military UK civil serial on her rear fuselage. Well she was two weekends ago anyway.

Not sure where you have heard about the repaint but it will not be in the near future so I have been told

RAF colours
The RAF repaint was what I had heard. I vaguely remember overhearing something when I was photographing the Viscount being dismantled. I should have been nosier!! I agree, she would look great in her proper clothes! Especially alongside other “transport” in hangar 1. I think the BOAC livery would look totally out of place alongside the Argosy and Andover etc.

When I was at Cosford a couple of weekends ago, I asked if once she was inside she’d be repainted but the member of staff I spoke to said no. But that’s not an official statement.
It’s nice to see her painted in the colours of BOAC but she never flew in those colours, but still nice (since I think the other Comets in the UK Duxford, East Fortune and Bruntingthorpe are in Dan Air Colours).
So if she was repainted in RAF colours maybe she would be repainted as XM823, a reg code she did fly in for nine years. Wouldn’t it be good to see her in colours she actual flew in?
