Is that grey an operational scheme? Not being too up on F-111 types, I don’t know, but it looks a bit more interesting than the usual green/brown schemes that most seem to be preserved in.

The Dept of Defence did what the MOD are good at, they upgraded the F-111’s with decent computers & avionics, together with overhauls & repaints (in grey) costing $$$$$ 😮

Shortly after, the fleet was retired to the Boneyard, although the Aussies know a bargain when they see one, a purchased more (F-111G) plus spares packages for years to come. 😉

It came from storage at Davis Monthan and arrived at Mildenhall inside a C-5 Galaxy.

atlast! managed to get to the restoration hanger today (another no-fly by the UAS!!) heres what i took. As you can see, the museum has alot to do until its ready for Display. I’m informed it took part in the Libyan raids and will be re-painted as it was then.

Can anyone shed a bit of light on this F111 for me? Where has it come from and how did it get to Mildenhall etc?

Thanks, Plazz

I passed it on the M6 last Thursday morning, which gave me an excuse for another visit to Cosford on Saturday.
Don’t know where they’ve hidden it though, as I couldn’t find it !

It was missing from its “usual” parking space at Mildenhall on Thursday.
