As part of a Team Building exercise, we had an escorted visit around the museum but I think these are probably the piccies you want to see. The ground in front of the Belfast is being prepared for its move and the VC-10 appears to be still intact. The BAC 1-11 is in the process of being dismantled.

Am I missing something here…
I visited the new hangar during construction – those red roof trusses aren’t red painted – it’s rust!
Are they going to paint them, (If so why not before the hangar is filled) and if they aren’t, won’t they a) look crappy and b) shed bits…
Mmmmm 😎

I hope the rust will be treated to preserve the building, if nothing else. However, it would seem to me that they would be more likely to decorate the walls with large posters and decorated card or plasterboard. Don’t know, but that would seem most likely to me.
Perhaps we should avoid making judgements about the plans and scheduling, until it is complete – then we can rip it apart (only kidding, I’m sure they’ll do a good job in the end).

That’s definitely the only way to display a Lightening, though – going ballistic!

In pic six it looks like they have started panting them black but this worries me, all that money spent on refurbing the airframes and then someone with a bucket and paintbrush goes and slops paint everywhere!!!!.
Forward planning (and common sense) says that these trusses should have been painted prior to airframes going into the structure, another fine example of cost and schedule being put before airframe preservation.
Regards,
John.

That’s it! I knew the “unusual” building design reminded me of something… it’s a Gerry Anderson production isn’t it?
So exactly when do International Rescue arrive at their new HQ in deepest Shropshire then! 😀
Or has Thunderbird 2 already been chopped up? :diablo:

Paul – nice thoughts ! Give it a few years and they will probably put a tropical lagoon and a pile of palm trees infront of it to hide it a little!

It looks like it’ll be worth a visit all the same.

I’m glad I’m not flying the Javelin – no ASI!
