Cosford Liberator and Hastings Outside

As promised on the ‘Cosford Liberator’ thread, pictures of the movements at Cosford this week. The Dakota (minus wings) was moved from Hanger 1 to the Conservation centre, to get her out the Liberator, Hastings and Jetstream needed to be moved outside.

Below are the aircraft ready to move in the cleared hanger on the evening of the 18th and outside at lunchtime on the 19th.

More to follow.

Funny, everytime I see the Hermes fuselage at Duxford I think there was a great set of new Hasting wings that were used on something else that could have been used to make a complete Hermes.

Great Photo’s Kilvy. 🙂

I couldn’t agree more 🙁 😀

Thanks for the kind comments. I’ve been a visitor to this forum for a couple of years but only recently felt confident enough to post my piccies. I bought a D70 last autumn and am trying to take my photography abit more seriously, this is my first opportunity to post something that I hoped would be of interest.

All comments are welcome, especially negative (or constructive!). I want to learn, and there are some VERY talented photographers frequenting this forum.

Heres to a safe, long and well photographed airshow season.
Bring it on.

cheers

Nice pics mate, thanks for putting them up. I’d always thought the Lib was kept in Indian AF markings, when did she get the SEAC roundals??

When was the last time you visited Cosford? It was repainted in these markings fairly soon after it arrived in the late ’70s!!

Nice to see them outside.

I’d second the comment regarding the staff at Cosford; I’ve found them very helpful and interested over the years on my (rare) visits.

Cheers

I can think of other, MORE interesting ways to blow the dust off of a Liberator…and I bet it would gather attention wherever it went…

A few miscellaneous shots to finish with.

The dakota minus her wings before her move, the Jetstream outside, The Liberator in the rain waiting to go back inside, and finally both aircraft back undercover.

I was in the Cosford area for a couple of weeks and made numerous visits to the museum during lunchtimes and in the evening. I can’t praise the staff highly enough, they were all friendly and polite and couldn’t be more helpful. Considering the attitude of staff at a couple of other museums I’ve been to recently the contrast could’t be greater. Thank you Cosford.

Why can’t I never look at a pic of a Hastings without thinking:

“Mmm nice wings, would make a nice start for a reconstruction project… ” 😮

OK, I’ll go and wash my mouth.

The Liberator was outside overnight and moved back inside on the afternoon of the 20th.

Barnowl – I’m nothing to do with the museum, these piccies are just ‘right place – right time’ …… for once!

I really do envy you lot with your really interesting museum jobs, working with historic aircraft for a living… Wish i could, but theres nothing around here (Monmouth) for me to enquire at… oh well, looks like an office job for me…

The Dakota move took a little longer than expected so there was only time for the Hastings to move back on the evening of the 19th. A huge storm was approaching!
