Cosford this Saturday.

Just wondering who’s still on for Saturday and where and when we’re going to meet up.

Regards,

F9/40

It’s also not the 1944 shiny paint – ‘cos lots of it woz redone a few years ago when it underwent a major conservation. I got a lot of pics of it at the time, with bits off all over.

For the modellers, the laugh is that Tamya worked really hard at a dead accurate Meteor I and carefully copied this a/c – not realising the numerous small differences (airbrakes being one I can recall) with the result (typical of Tamya) that they retooled and re-released. Airfix would’ve gone – “who cares?!”
Cheers

I know the first one to fly had De Havilland engines as the RR ones weren’t ready. 🙂

According to the Barry Jones “Gloster Meteor” book, the clear-view canopy and tail bullet are later additions.
The F.1 prototype EE210/G also had 5 degrees of dihedral at the wing tips and a pair of Welland engines. It first flew at Moreton Valence on 12 January 1944 piloted by Michael Daunt (I am passionately interested in first flight details).

OK, Robbo, as a technical author I should be more careful with my nomenclature! And I hope I didn’t offend you, Moggy!
Can I get off my knees now, after adopting a suitably humble posture?

Does to me too, but only ‘cos I read the board two days ago.
Are there any fundamental differences?

Sorry, guys, but I can’t resist adding my two penn’orth from my earlier Cosford visit – at least this Meteor has some colour! Must learn about white balance, though, one of these days!
Congratulations on your “moody” pic though.

Hmm looks like a tripod to me and also there’s appears to perhaps be a pitot cover there.

2004 or 1944?

Nothing much has changed.

Mr Guide also said that Cosford have a number of running Mk.5 JPs, which they taxi about in full gear.

They do indeed, they are housed in the Hangers on the airfield and used to teach erks how to prep an aircraft for flight and generally run a squadron.

If you ever get a chance to go round the SOTT then do so, its wonderful to see the old boys teaching the youngsters the trade.

I was concentrating on getting ‘er started! Quite an interesting bloke showing us that JP. Said he was a designer on the Fairey Delta (incidentally had a conversation with Alan@Popham yesterday about their test pilot, who saw Peter last week).

As you know, I don’t really do aircraft pics.

Cosford 2 – Duxford 1

Whereas poor old Duxford only has Ashley to fight the battle against dust, Cosford has these two, who seemed more interested in getting footmarks off the rail than actually dusting the aircraft.

Possible caption competition?

One of the highspots

🙂

Hearty recommends to the Old Bush at Albrighton. The advance party arrived at 1:45 and the chef was due to leave at 2:00. Hearing that there were a number of hungry forumites en-route the barmaid went and had a word with him and he stayed on to cook their food.

That and the delicious local brew (Banks’s Mild) combine to make this the venue of choice for my next visit to the area.

Might even skip the museum 😉

Seeing the pic of Moggy and Lofty reminds me. After waxing lyrical about the excellent tea and reasonable grub, the b****** have changed it. Food seems dearer, although still not Hendon level, but the tea now comes from a machine and the milk is UHT. Drink at your peril. Bl**dy accountants.

Dinner was pie ‘n’ mash in the local with Bank’s Mild.

(dhfan, ‘is missus and Moggy)

Suprisingly the best photo of the lot. Must be the program mode on my camera…
