Not too sure if any photos have been posted before as I believe this has only just recently gone on display?
Spent a quick 20 minutes photographing the FW-190 at RAFM Cosford during my lunchbreak.
Very nice machine too!
I believe it was moved to Cosford in December last year due to the refurbishment at IWM Lambeth but seems that it was owned by RAFM all along?!
Does anybody know the history of this particular airframe as the accompanying placard states it was captured in Denmark in the May of ’45?
Cheers
Tim

…..It would interesting to see any pictures of it in its past guises……
This was around 1984/85 at Duxford.

Well done.Just got back from there and editing photos now.The lighting is a bit of a so and so on the colours.I would love to see these airframes one day in natural light in an uncrowded display so you can see all round them.

I had a squint in the cockpit a coulpe of months ago. At the time the stick top was missing, the original harness was still fitted, as were most of the instruments. Still intrigued that its an unarmed variant ?
As far as I’m aware, almost all the Mistel 190’s had guns removed in order to save weight as there were early problems with the Ju88’s suffering tyre bursts because of the combined weight.

Nice, while the outside has clearly been repainted and cleaned up….the interior engine compartment still looks pretty original. Does the same hold true for all the interior and cockpit?

Fw 190A-8/R-6, Wk Nr 733682 was captured at Tistrup Denmark and was removed at Schleswig from on top of a Ju 88H-1, which was scrapped on site. The Fw 190 was ferried over, as was another complete Mistel Fw 190/Ju 88 combo, but sadly this pair was scrapped after making an appearance at the Enemy Aircraft Exhibition at Farnborough in October 1945. The surviving Fw 190 didn’t arrive in the UK (it was flown over) until November, so missed the exhibition, although many have assumed it was the one that appeared at the exhibition.

Nice to see that they have retained the original Luftwaffe WWII green cable tie, as can be seen in the third photo:)

This is the reason I am against hanging aircraft up like Airfix kits, there is no chance of such a close examination like this with the cockpit open to view and access panels open.

Speaking of Mistel combinations, I was amazed to discover from “The Last Blitz” that two (I think) were launched at UK targets in 1944.

Just a few more, hopefully I’ll get round to processing the rest over the weekend.
Unfortunately no cockpit shots though.

Skyscooter, there seems to be an additional colar on the oleos , maybe to stop her sinking down?

It’s been at IWM Lambeth for a number of years J Boyle (it also went to Duxford briefly in the 80’s for a repaint), but it was recently returned to RAFM as a result of the revamp that’s going on at Lambeth.
I must admit I never realised it was so complete internally, it’s interesting to see it with panels off exposing all the gubbins.
It would interesting to see any pictures of it in its past guises, especially when first captured.

Ah! Kommandogerat – probably the single most complicated control device to be fitted to a piston engine.
Clever chaps those Jerries….

Is that the one that was at the IWM London back in the 70s? It looked great then and I was amazed by the drip pan underneath.

Nice shots. Tim, did you manage to get any cockpit pics? I see the hood is conveniently open. She seems to be standing tall. When she was on her undercarriage at Lambeth before being hung she looked flat as if the oleos had collapsed.

Looks great back on its wheels. I notice its unarmed. And I hope it stays where it is !
