Well in an ideal world more of the site would be used by the museum, fat chance of that happening.
With the latest plan to convert Lynham into the defence technical training school the other hangars at Cosford could well become avilable.

Sadsack -you can hardly tack on a upvc conservatory extension on the NWCM to house the Nimrod when he whole basis of the building was that it was groundbreaking!
Oh – I don’t know – it might actually add something…..

My impression was that it was going in the space cleared in one of the C hangars, could be wrong though.
My point is that it’s going into long term preservation, couldn’t see the need to be down beat about it.

I’m no architect but it appears to me that the location of the NWCM, as well as the design, would preclude any extension to the building itself. However, with the demise of the BA Collection there is a nice patch of grass where the Hercules now resides which might provide a future home for another building of uncertain design? On that patch of grass was, at one time, a BAC 1-11, VC10 and a 707.

re;
I am sure they will extend it in time, after all thats what they did with the RAFM, and Airspace at Duxford.

Is it going indoors?
The only potential space I can remember is in the bottom hangar where the Comet is (a logical move perhaps?) but that seems to be the place where they hold functions etc. Difficult to see how they’d fit it in. I always thought from the promotional material when the NCWM was being planned that the idea was there would be no more aircraft displayed outside. So far there is the Hunter on the gate, the Neptune which hasn’t moved for years, the Jetstream, Hercules and now, presumably, the Nimrod. At the time the NCWM was being built it was also mooted amongst the staff there that, in the fullness of time, one of the VC10’s and possibly even a Tristar would be arriving.

it’s sad to see a R.1 end up like that.
What, on its way to be preserved indoors at a national museum?:confused:
