Cosford,white Vulcan,a/c outside in the old 1980`s

just a selection of shots that i took with my Kodac Instamatic when i was in the Air Cadets many moons ago. the white Vulcan may be of interest?.. is the front end still around or was it sadly scrapped with the rest of the badly rotted airframe? . i took some of the pics from the topside of the Avro York.

Nice shots! Funny that common sense rightly says that aircraft should be preserved indoors for their long term health as much as possible, but there is something about seeing them all outside like that appeals to me. Photographically it’s far better!
Can you imagine seeing an Me410, Ju52, Liberator etc displayed outside on a grass area now?!
Nice to see the Valetta on display and the Victor Mk1.
It was a real shame that the Canberra B(I).8 was deemed unworthy of being kept by the RAFM, but at least it is in good hands now.
There have been some shameful decisions made in the past at Cosford, both by the RAFM and BA collection.

Vulcan XM598 arrived in early 1983 if that helps with dates.

I think it may be early eighties, because if you study one of the photos with the White Vulcan, there is a Talbot Alpine car, rather like mine, this one has 2 tone bodywork and appears to have the black bumpers (as opposed to the earlier white ones) Mmm…..

Cosford has a walk-through exhibit made from a Vulcan B.1 nose, but it’s from a different airframe. XA900 was broken up and scrapped in it’s entirety.

As for the B(I).8 Canberra, it should really never have been declared surplus and allowed to go abroad. Nice to see the people at Wigram looking after it so well though.
