Cost of Food in Europe…

I was curious. Someone said in the McDonald’s topic that they sell
“expensive hamburgers”. I was thinking that seemed strange,
because over here, Mcdonalds is about as cheap as hamburgers
get.

How much does most food cost over there? For instance, beef, per
pound. the most expensive beef, tenderloin, costs between $12 and
$16 a pound for Choice meat. Ribeye, strip steaks round $7-$10 a
pound.

McDonald’s burgers are cheap – a double cheeseburger is $.99.
You can get a half pound burger, fries and a drink for under $5.00.

Also, how much does beer cost? Typical 6 pack costs between $5
and $8, depending on the quality (Busch lite is sometimes $10 a
case of 24). Good beer, like Sam Adams or Killians, or imported
beer, are more, like $6-$7 dollars a 6 pack.

I think Busch and Bud lite are $75 a 1/2 barrel Keg, whereas Sam
Adams is closer to $150. Imports vary, but are all between $90.00
and $140.00 a keg.

I was wondering, as a friend of mine had been to Europe, and said
everyhtin was very expensive. Of course, he could have been in a
toruist area, where prices were jacked up. I don’t know…

Conversion rate from $ to £ would make Britain seem expensive.

dme

It’s not the conversion rate, things are expensive over here, I buy generally the same groceries week after week and it’s getting more expensive each week, so much for inflation supposing to be low! 😡

Guiness is probably in the same region as Caffreys.

I’m looking at a few local pub/restuarant menu’s here. For a fairly standard portion of steak and chips (fries), we’d pay an average of £6-9. So that’s $11-16. Then a glass of coke on top of that is usually £1.50, so add approx $2.50.

In the UK we seem to be ripped-off for nearly everything.

A double cheese-burger in McDonalds costs us 99p, so that’s about $1.75.

A quarter pounder (we don’t get half pounders) with fries and a drink is about £3.70-80, so around $6.70.

A 24 pack of good lager such as Stella can be anything between £15-20. So that’s $25-35.

Take a draught beer like Caffreys, a 4 pack of 330ml cans would be around £3-4, so $5-6.
