Course Setting Bombsight Mk.VIIA details sought

Hello,

Me again. This time something a little different. We have a Course Setting Bombsight Mk.VIIA which is in its original box, complete with all parts but in need of total restoration. I’ve looked on the net, but can’t find anything as to the object’s age or use. Its built by Messrs ER Watts & Sons and has the serial number 5233/38. If its of any interest it was donated from the St.Eval area.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Best wishes,

Martin

Oh, if you’re with the Classic Air Force get someone with some sort of Radioactive Monitor to check the sights on the vertical height bar. These are frequently a very active and open source of radium.

Anne,

Many thanks for the quick reply. Nice to know that its pre-war as we thought it was post, inline with everything in the hangar (cept for the DC-3). Will get the sight monitored, as its sitting on the desk opposite me and well in my own interests would like to know how ‘harmful’ it is! 🙂

Best wishes,

Martin

Very nice!

Standard bombsight of the mid 1930s (think Hart family, that sort of thing).

Quite rare as well. Most of the CSBS sights around are the later Mk.IX sights.
