Court Martial type films/movies

Any recommendations for this sort of film/movie ?

Or any other dramatic but mostly non combatant military films.

One of my favourite films is Tunes of Glory…not a single battle scene 😉

What’s that film with Kirk Douglas as a French officer who is trying to clear the names of several French soldiers during WW1?

Paths of Glory.

I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned this already:

True, it does have a few battle scenes but is primarily about the court martial.

Damn – spent ages trying to remember the name of a David Niven film usually repeated once a year in the afternoon on Channel 4, only to find it already mentioned – Carrington VC. Another of that ilk but not featuring a courts martial, rather what happens after a courts martial, is the very good The Hill (1965).

Just watched a reasonable film called ‘Word of Honor’ – based on the same titled book by Nelson DeMille

The court martial of an Army Lieutenant many years after a vietnam massacre,I read the book years ago and hadnt realised there was a film !

Starred Don Johnson and the lovely Jeanne Tripplehorn

Not the best of films but ntb !

There is a very funny Sergeant Bilko episode.

Apologies for thread drift but I find it difficult to recall an episode of Bilko which was not funny. One of the best US comedy series of all time, without a doubt. And I well remember the monkey one. Here it is Binky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-Zqi1I6JrU

There is a very funny Sergeant Bilko episode where they, through a very amusing series of accidents and sloppy procedures, recruit a monkey into the American army.

Once they realised what had happened, and the monkey had been enlisted, the only way they could get rid of it was the hold an official court martial … very very funny episode.:highly_amused:

To answer your question though, ‘A Few Good Men’ is an excellent film with some iconic dialogue and great acting.

While not a movie, you still have all the Jag series.. Entertaining during cold and rainy winter, I mean, summer nights.

The Hasty Heart.

Not a legal type film but a hospital one.
Look out for Ronald Reagan–and of course Richard Todd.

Breaker Morant

Three Australian lieutenants are court martialed for executing prisoners as a way of deflecting attention from war crimes committed by their superior officers.

Brilliant film Edward Woodward on fine form
