Coventry – a flaming DC-6 from Santa

A big thank you to everyone who made yesterday’s Dakota flying day at Baginton so enjoyable and all of us visitors so welcome. The staff and AACF volunteers endured Freeezing weather to put on the event – but a host of satisfied customers proved it was all worth while. In addition to “Rudolph” the Dak, there were a number of other joys, such as the chance to experience the Shackleton and a DC-6 being run up together in the dark – what a sight and sound! The sight of those blue exhaust flames from the DC-6 was worth the visit alone. Then there was the visiting Beech C-45 flown in and the excellent Buccaneer nose roaded in by its owner, re-enactors with their military transport and even Santa in his “Pioneering” Grotto ! I hope my photos give at least some idea of the atmosphere achieved.

Fantastic shots there like the 2nd DC-6 shot 😎 Whats happing to the other DC-6 looks sad sitting there and its sister ship getting the TLC. Is that the RAF DC-3 behind that DC-6?

Regards

James

No, the Dakota behind the the stored DC-6 is ex G-AMSV (see picture above which also has the Hunter nose in the view). The AACF Dakota painted in RAF scheme is G-AMPY. This was also present and here are some shots showing that re-enactors were having some fun involving that example.

Lovely photos of the Six.

Interesting new website in build at www.thedc6.com. Looks like G-APSA has an interesting year ahead…

The Dak is the former G-AMSV, now on the N register, and is due to depart to Ireland at somepoint. They were performing engine runs a month or so ago but were having a few problems. I imagine it can’t be too far off flying now.

Looks like a great time for all was had?.

Nice shots whish I could have been there.
Nice to see the classic flight is alive and well and good luck for to 2008.
Could some one answer this question please the Dakota parked next to the Hunter looks in one piece will she be going back into the air in 2008?
Which one is it as well as you are unable to see her registration.
Look forward to seeing a number of the Classic Flight around next year a hopefully a trip to see them in 2008.
