Coventry Airport expansion???

Controversial plans to expand a Midlands airport are expected to be released on Tuesday.
The owners of Coventry Airport, Air Atlantique, want to build a £3m passenger terminal and begin cheap flights to Europe.

It is expected the new terminal, which would be built away from the Bagington village end of the airport, would be capable of handling up to two million passengers a year, although initial expectations are for passenger numbers to be about 500,000.

But the plans look likely to be opposed by residents living near the airport, particularly those under the flight path in Willenhall Wood.

‘No consultation’

At the moment, the airport is almost exclusively used for transporting cargo and has one of Europe’s biggest parcel distribution centres.

Residents living in Willenhall Wood already oppose the number of cargo flights and say they are angry they have not been consulted about the latest plans.

Stuart Lanagan, who lives near the airport, said: “Nobody on this estate has been consulted.

“Nobody has been asked for our opinion. We’ve just been rubber stamped straight off the top, once again. We just live here.”

Mike Collett, chairman of the Air Atlantique Group, says he understands people’s concerns, but believes they are unfounded.

The plans are not connected to proposals for a Heathrow-sized airport near Rugby.

RE: Coventry Airport expansion???

i have flown into Coventry Airport twice both from Liverpool en route to Guernsey when Air Corbiere operated a passenger service. I know Ryanair operated from there also briefly I think to Knock with a BAC1-11.
