Coventry airport terminal building to be closed!!

Budget airline takes off into row

The airline will fly to 11 destinations from Coventry Airport
A new budget airline based at Coventry Airport took off on Wednesday, despite a wrangle with local planners.
Low-cost outfit Thomsonfly’s launched its first services to Jersey, Malaga, Rome, Valencia and Venice.

Travel group TUI bought the airport in February, but has been told it cannot use a temporary terminal built at the site without planning permission.

Warwick District Council says an Environmental Impact Assessment and planning permission are needed.

The Council has ordered Coventry Airport to stop using the terminal and has agreed to issue an enforcement notice over the facility at a meeting on Wednesday.

Weeks of legal arguments could follow to resolve the row.

The council says the building is over 500 square metres and therefore needs plannning permission, but the airport claims it is smaller than that.

The authority has received more than 2,500 letters objecting to the expansion of Coventry Airport.

Thomsonfly intends to begin flying to 11 European locations.

Coventry Airport has said it has referred the matter to its lawyers.
