I don’t want to tread on Keiths toes so have started a seperate thread.
I had a wonderful day at Coventry (thanks to Ben for the heads up) on 10th May, primarily to see the Nimrod come in. However Classic Flight really pulled the stops out and parked most of their aircraft outside, the weather stayed kind aswel. Really good to meet the other forumites aswel!

DC-6 G-SIXC is looking a bit tired these days

However G-APSA is looking very healthy!

A fair amount of Marinas were built and sold aswel, 807,000 for the home market!
What I’m trying to illustrate was that slide from ok aircraft designs (UK still had large foreign market to rely on, Friendship arguably better and the way of things to come) into also rans.

I like civies, especially the big prop-liners!
The ATP it just reminds me of that ghastly last gasp of the British motor and aviation industry, if the 748 was the HS equivelent of the BL Marina, then the ATP was the BAe equivelent of the Austin Rover Maestro!
Prepares for incoming!
The 748 cant have been that bad given nearly 400 were built! Also dont forget it was Avro design – type 748 hence the name 🙂
Struggling to think of any other post war british civil designs that did that well… Only possible one that springs to mind is the Viscount.
As for the ATP well yes, cant really argue there…… 😀

Truth be told I’ve never been up where our spares are stashed. I was rather hoping that was a stumble across some forgotten ones!

You should know;)

I would have loved to have got the Electras, but they were parked away from the public area. As for the ATPs – son you’re on your own!:D

……. I think the Phantom has been completed both sides, might be my pictures that give a wrong impression?
………
As of yesterday looks complete on port side but missing a few markings (on fin/rudder) on starboard.

Its a real shame actually, she hasnt flown for a couple of years now, she needs new wings or so ive been told?
perhaps alanl, Consul, or RPSmith might be able to shed some light on this?
I think the situation with the Twin Pin (“Primrose”) was related to brackets that attach the wing struts rather than the wings themselves.

AWA’s earlier factory/airfield was a short distance away at Whitley. Some of that site is owned by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Again nearly all of the original AWA buildings were demolished years ago – with one exception. The Flight Shed which was erected in the 1920s survives and is in use by JLR – although I don’t know what for.

Thanks Ben!
I’ve never seen AAs Twin Pin, always seem to miss it

other side of atlantiques hangar, I think the current lack of wings on the TP meant that it was kept out of sight, negative press coverage etc, I mean G-SIXC has sat without a number 1 engine for about 2 years, one was put on for the press release! also i think G-AMRA Was round the corner too since she was sans number 2 engine and prop and has been for some time 🙂

Thanks xf, just re-aquainted myself with AW history – my god it’s complicated!
Another silly question, anyone know where the Twin Pin and Pembroke were on Tuesday?
