Coventry Sunday

Attended Coventry airshow today and was treated to some spectacular flying. Even with three aircraft the Breitling Fighters are quite simply superb. Shame this could be the last show, the organisers put on a wonderful event.

I was a bit saddened that the announcers didnt dedicate the show to Pierre Hollander, i dont think there was barely even a mention in the show commentry (if there was and i didnt hear it, apologies)

The only downside to the day was hearing about the Hunter incident just now and less importantly that the current issue of flypast is so dire i think ill stop buying the magazine after 9 years.

Heres hoping for the rest of the airshow season to be safe and eventful for all the right reasons.

Neil, you can laugh as much as you like, we did.:D Kept away from that side of the fence as much as possible. My son and I were the two scruffs keeping the turnaround times down, and the pilots happy.

yes the Shak did look and sound great… the contra-rotating props make a strange ‘clattering’ sound at low revs… may be my imagination but doesn’t sound as ‘loud’ as a Lanc… different engine i know but similar a/c config etc… I go to watch ‘Just Jane’ a few times a year and that seems noiser.. probably just my hearing/age..

Ewen – so was that you doing the headcount and trying to work out how the people selling the tickets were expecting you to squeeze 26 passengers on to one Rapide ?!! sorry, shouldn’t laugh, I think you sorted out everyone very well…
it was an excellent flight especially as we were up at the same time as the Prentice so got to see that in flight.

Whats it look like these days? I seem to remember it was looking a bit ‘tired’ at the last show.

Twice on Sunday
Was there at the 11am running
All 4 engines going, great sound!

Look ok, although the top surface of the wings looked a bit “worn”

Will post a few pics I took with my digi cam soon

Guzzineil

Thought that was you on the 10:30 Rapide, nice to meet you:D

Both Rapides were up in formation early evening and we were lucky to be offered seats – perks of the job? Superb.:D

Joe

Yes, they ran all four on the Shak’ at least twice each day although they had been having over-heating problems on, I believe, No 4 having blown a hose on Thursday. She looks far, far better than last year as the guys have been putting in a lot of hard work on her.

It’s an airworthiness issue so the term ‘speedy’ doesn’t come into it.

Surely DHA will have to make a speedy repair, as she must be bound to a contract to Red Bull.

Damien – I can imagine that they will have to design and then apply for a repair scheme for her – I guess the design authority is held by DeHavilland Support for the Sea Vixen. What a shame
that it has happened so early in the season but then again compared to the rest of the weekend’s events I guess it’s trivial
in comparison.

It was unable to leave while i was there. I saw the crew getting in and making it ready then after about 20 mins they got out and closed it up.

i’ve just read the postings about the probs with the Sea Vixen… I presume they must’ve pushed it undercover to carry out temp repairs…

I picked-up a Corgi Hunter that I hadn’t see before.. it was a polished’metal’ one and came in a fancy black presentation box type thing.. it was £14.50 and looks very nice on my bookcase thank-you very much!

Corgi Aviation Heritage Centre was nice and cheap 🙂

Been to their shop in Manchester, its quite good but take the prices with you from the website as they are sometimes cheaper

Picked up a Tornado for £20

Pictures from Coventry to follow (mainly statics with my digital)

yes I had an excellent day there… treated myself to a ride in one of the Rapides and picked-up a couple of Corgi models at sensible prices… thourght the crowd line was nice and close to the runway which was excellent when the DC-6’s were displaying… and the Noratlas and the Twin-Pin… one thing though, what happened to the Sea-Vixen… it was parked up when I went on the Rapide flight (10.30) but then seemed to have dissapeared?

Neil.
