Dear All,
just out of question, can one become an airline pilot with a CPL and without a ATPL.
E.g: Pilot one has:
1000t.t
500 multi
IFR rating
Night rating
Jet rating
Would he have a chance, and do CPL pilots ever get to the airlines, would BA be intrested in a FAA rated commercial pilot?

Freight or passenger, you will never fly a G reg aircraft commercially without a JAA license.
If you wish to fly for an American airline you will need a Green Card and a hell of a lot of luck.
Your best bet would be to try and get a job flying a European based N reg bizjet. The only problem with this is that there are literally hundreds of British FAA ATPL holders after these jobs and there aren’t many of them. Many of these are also unpaid positions.

How about American airlines,
At one point before sep.11th I do understand you could get into American airlines on a CPL with 300t.t as a first officer, I think from thier they provided your transition training to 737 which is what most fledging AA pilots start on. (Lucky bloody them)
I know freight is ok, and with the FAA I can fly Golf reg aircraft if I take some sort of skills/transition test. So my instructor goes.

An FAA CPL (or ATPL) will only allow you to fly American registered aircraft, so no you won’t get into BA or any UK airline.
In Europe you must hold a frozen ATPL (not a CPL/IR, i.e. you must have studied nav subjects to ATPL standards) to be employed as a First Officer (or second officer, before you ask!).
