Does anyone know what the current situation is with the SAAB Lansen at Cranfield?
The last time I saw it was in 2001 and it was not looking in the best of health.
Does anyone know a contact at Cranfield who could help me find out who owns her?

I often wondered what aircraft that was since i’ve been flying from Cranfield for the past year. Shes parked on her own at the moment but I noticed someone who posted above said they are the new owners? Hope she gets the care she deserves. I’ll go and snap a few photos once shes been moved round by the lightning 😎

It used a RM6B Swedish licence build Avon 200 with their own design afterburner. I don’t think a British Avon would do the job.
A 32A Lansen 32028/G-BMSG is fitted with a RM5A (RR Avon RA 21).

A spare Avon should fit right in!

I attended the last T5 open day, well worth the money, def go and support this cause. Anyway was told that the Lansen had recently been brought and was going to be cosmetically restored, alas she has no engine in.

you would be quite surprised how good a condition she is in considering how long she has been left un-attended,however good news is she will soon be getting the care she deserves, and hopefully within the next few weeks she will be taking up her new possition, parked next to XS458, and once the paperwork is sorted out i will be the new owner of the saab lansen

Welcome to the Forum 🙂 We hope you stay and post regularly.
Normally it’s preferably to open a new thread rather than digging up one from so far back in the archives, but don’t worry about it re this one.

I am in the un-enviable position of working for a company that overlooks Cranfield airfield from the west (one of the reasons I went for the job!).
I can see both the Lightning and the J32 from my window 😀

wonder if the Swedes could be pursaded into allowing their flyer to display at an event over here??
And preferably along with it’s Historic Flight stablemates of J29, J35 and J37……. 😀
I suppose anythings possible given a suitably large Kronor donation…… 😉

Buccsociety,
Did you ever make any progress with your requests for info for this aircraft? It’d look good jetting down Brunty’s runway!
J man
Sorry J Man, I never did progress with any enquiries, changes in policy and in available funding, pretty much curtailed our interest.
I would dearly love to see a Lansen back in the air, I have not seen one for quite sometime, wonder if the Swedes could be pursaded into allowing their flyer to display at an event over here??

Thanks for the image Steve, looks as though she has received some attention since I saw her last.
VAT/Topen never owned her, she just lodged with them.
I am still looking for a contact, If anyone can help please send me a PM.

This aircraft arrived Cranfield in a black and white scheme during mid 80’s. It sat with VAT for a while but was not owned by VAT/Topen. It is reg’d per G-INFO to J.Wilkie.

Last i heard was that Sandy Topen was taking it on.

The Lansen is currently registered to James Wilkie who thoughout the 80’s and early 90’s had a number of vintage helicopters (Skeeter, Scout etc). Was this machine something to do with Aces High once upon a time?

Having worked at cranfield, i think it was owned by someone in the village, i know it is registered as G-BMSG if that helps and it was built in the mid fifties and has been there for as long as i can remember having started work there in the early ninties

I do not think that Kennet own the Lansen, otherwise it would of gone to weald would it not?
