Aviation Centre on Small Screen !
Just a quick footnote to the article about the Cranwell Aviation Heritage Centre.
On Friday we had our pre season meeting to discuss the opening of the Centre on Bank holiday Monday, and one suggestion for an open day special theme was to host an “aeroboot” event.Does anyone have any experience of these events, or know of anyone who may have attended one ?, just that we want to know what sort of response we would have if we decided to go ahead and organize one later in the year !.
After the meeting we had a visit from a film crew interested in interviewing a couple of members for a documentry that is being made titled (i think !) “Air,war and peace. Two of our more senior volunteers (both called Les !) ended up doing “a piece to camera” recollecting their experiences of foriegn airmen serving with the RAF during WW2. The sequence was shot in the courtyard of the centre in front of our JP !…nice !.If anyone has any experience of foreign aircrews serving with the RAF during the Second world war, maybe some interesting stories or photographs, then perhaps you can get in touch with me and i will give you contact details for the production team.Have a great bank holiday.Andy.

Whilst on a long drive down to Boston I tripped upon the Cranwell Aviation Heritage Centre, it was a welcome break in a boring journey and I was very impressed by what was on display for such a small establishment.
It is highly recomended and the staff were brilliant, i wish you all the best of luck in the future.
Regards,
John.

Andy, good luck with finding volunteers for the visitor centre, its well worth a visit, I visited a few years ago now as I don’t get up your way that often, must say the gentleman on duty that day certainly knew his stuff.

Cranwell Heritage Centre
I went to the Cranwell Heritage Centre about 5 years ago whilst in the area. There is a Jet Provost T4 XP556 outside and inside is a pod from a Vampire T11 XE946. There are displays and photographs and videos etc depicting the history of the RAF and Cranwell etc.
I think admssion was free so you cant complain if it is not what you expected.
Still worth a visit though. A picture below of the JP outside
